Well ep. 8 was almost like a semi-toned down version of Madoka Magica.
Spoiler:
Isana seems to be quite interested in Yumeji, as she keeps following him around everywhere... A bit of Yumeji talking with Yui, and it looks like Merry and Enji temporarily form an alliance to fight against Pharos. Not much else in this episode. The dream world strongly reminded me of Madoka, but with more dialogue and less animated action.

And what's with all the bellyshots of Merry...? >_>

It's the running fetish in this anime apparently.

Alright, so looks like nobody posted here in a while. The anime apparently broke away from the manga storyline quite a bit, according to viewers who also read the manga.

Ep. 11:
Spoiler:
Well this episode was quite anticlimactic. You could kind of already guess what was going to happen. Isana and everyone else is pulled into Mystletainn's dream, and the constant scenes of Kawanami in the background kind of give away what would happen. Except nothing really happens. Kawanami shows up and goes "I'm protecting my friends", then Mystletainn goes "whatev" and walks away, end of ep.

The series started out OK, but this original anime story thing isn't being executed well, IMO.

ep.11 was bad

Yeah I agree....I was like O_O is going on here?
It went way downhill so far, that I can't even see it....
Hope next episode gets back to the good stuff that made this a stand-out series.

I was kind of disappointed in the anime; The Manga was much better.

Well..just watched the final episode.
Spoiler:
I thought that it was pretty decent, (definitely better than the last couple of episodes), and I was glad that everyone showed off their fighting spirit. However, I was disappointed that instead of John Doe showing back up in the end, we just get a brief mentioning of him. It would have been much more epic to see him and Yumeji fight back to back, (and I hear that there's more John Doe in the manga, so I'm going to pick it up for that bonus).

Overall, this was a decent series, but sadly didn't live up to it's full potential. I wouldn't mind a second season, I suppose, but the pacing and characterization issues would need to be corrected before I would consider watching it.

Like I said before, the first few eps were good, then it kinda went downhill from there.

Spoiler:
A few exciting moments, but it could have been done a lot better. Chizuru's sacrifice for the "magic bullet" seemed more like a pointless waste instead of creating dramatic suspense. The ending "final move" seemed too quick.

iDunno. Decent overall story, but execution was horrible. Just horrible.

I will make it clear that I do not like J.C.Staff. They've been responsible for ruining some of my favourite manga such as Bakuman and Hayate no Gotoku, the latter which is in my Top Five. Those anime adaptations were already terrible, but Yumekui Merry just takes it to a whole new level.

Seriously, what the heck. After watching 13 episodes we come out of it knowing pretty much nothing about dream demons. It provides even less basic information than even the first episodes of Star Driver, and this is the ending! Do they seriously think they're gonna make a season 2 for this? Well, since Kampfer is getting a second season I guess anything is possible, but that still doesn't redeem this current series standalone.

You can practically watch the first 2 episodes of this show, then watch the last few and you'd come out of it with the same knowledge as someone who followed and watched the whole thing. And the writing is absolutely horrid. I even went back to check the source because I just couldn't believe anything this bad can even be published, and what do you know - it was indeed an original ending J.C.Staff came up with.

To end, I'm going to quote a blogger who summed it up nicely from Random Curiosity.

This is how it went down in the writer’s room:
“Hey, let’s make Mistletainn really overpowered.”
“So Yumeji’s going to lose right away then, making the cliffhanger entirely pointless?”
“Yeah, that’s fine. Anyway, we need to figure out how to get rid of these filler characters in case we get a second season.”
“We’re going to get a second season?”
“C’mon FOCUS! Okay, how about we let Kawanami & Lestion sacrifice themselves, but as a twist, it didn’t really work!”
“Wait, but isn’t that pointless too?”
“It’s okay, we’ll make it all dramatic, it’ll be fine. Plus, it’ll do something later when Merry wins. Oh but first, let’s trap her with some power Mistletainn has and make it so it’s like a metaphor of her struggles over the entire season. Isn’t that brilliant? Damn, I must be a genius.”
“Uh, so what do we do about Yumeji?”
“Hmm, well, I can’t see much else, but he’s related to John Doe right? Let’s just give him his weapon, and he can summon it using the power of will. Then after some struggles, Merry will come out because of Yumeji’s promise that’s been their only bond, Yui will blow her air trumpet, cut multiple times to Kawanami to show how brain dead she is, Engi will miraculously heal, and then Merry will beat her up purely because Yumeji believes in her! Ah, it’s almost romantic.”
“Do you really think it’s reasonable enough to string together a bunch of random facts mixed with shit we pulled out of our ass without any concrete solution except, †˜it can, so it will’ and pretty much undermine the entire series we’ve been developing up until now?”
“You know, you’re starting to become a real downer. But don’t worry man, this is going to be the most epic finale ever. I just know it.”

Go kill yourself, J.C.Staff. You have died in my heart since Honey & Clover.

4/10. The show had some promise in the beginning for following the source material but J.C.Staff ruined it.

Wow, some harsh words. How did they mess up Hayate no Gotoku? S1 was done by SynergySP, not JCstaff... Was S2 that bad?

I was referring to only S2. S1 was far better than S2. S2's cinematography is incredibly weak and lost the 'touch' the manga had.

Harsh words indeed Imperial, though you have valid and true reasons why you show so much distaste and hate toward JC Staff and in this case there way of doing this title.

I for one cannot agree 100% with you, why? Because I haven't read the manga, and I am more of an anime fan over manga, I enjoy anime much more than the manga counterpart. So that already limits my knowledge of any series that isn't a sequel. (of course there are times where I have read the manga before the anime is made). Now while I did find problems and uninteresting segments in this series, I was still enjoying the over all flow of the show, it was obviously going some where, regardless of how we got from point A to B didn't matter as much to me as long as we got to point B. Of course the last episodes had major issues(yes I am sure you're thinking "major issues? that's an under statement,") but since I haven't read the manga I don't see the greater picture the more severe issue that many others seem to have. Am I just as upset as them, no. I enjoyed the ride to the Amusement park (JC Staffs: Yumekui Merry) and was looking forward to a good time only to find that each hour a different ride broke and had to be closed, and the food carts were all out of my favorite foods. End result, I went home tired from walking around all day, didn't get to go one one good ride, and was really hungry for something tasty(some other anime), but I am sure that amusement park will be at 100% another day.

tl;dr
Did I enjoy this series? not anymore than the next guy did, unless he's Imperial.
My opinion on this series? a big old "MEH"
Would I watch it again? only if a friend wanted to see it and convinced me to watch it with him.

Toradora was pretty good.

Yumekui merry even though wtf no story line shit, at least it wasn't all moe generic shit; the fight scenes were pretty cool.

This is why you should never try to "compare".

Even the Cast from Seitokai no ichizon Ichizon already warned the viewers to understand the differences in media for their own anime from the very start of their first episode.

The anime "version" of Yumekui Merry is indeed not as stellar as it's original manga. But it's still watchable. Even my sister thinks it was a "watchable" anime and she "enjoyed it as it is". But When I said that "some" people said the anime was trash, she then confusedly asked "Why?" becaus she honestly likes it. (My sister is a year younger than me, and she has not read the manga).

I enjoyed "this new version of story", even though I still want more of John Doe.

Utter train wreck of an anime, even if I were to not compare it to its source material. When you do compare it to its source material, and what JC Staff could have done, it's just a festering pile of horse shit. Worst adaptation I've ever seen JC Staff do. Expanded hatred here.

I haven't read the manga, and I think this adaptation was pretty awful. "Watchable" is a word that really shouldn't be used to describe the quality of an anime. If you can watch it, it's watchable, not necessarily good or bad.

Lol, I really use my sister as "factor of deciding" which anime are really "watchable". Because she has the tendency to instantly drop anything that didn't interest her, And she didn't drop this. lol
Of course this doesn't affect me, and I'll keep watching them anyway.

Perceiving it good or bad is a subjective matter, since my sister said "it was a good anime". Some people just ruin themselves by thinking too much of the plot, the plot-holes and in the end, not enjoying as they have become too preoccupied with their thoughts.

I can agree to that. Although, I have to say that mentality can actually help in some specific cases.
