First time cosplayer with a quick question...

0
I'd like to start with who I'm cosplaying as. I plan on cosplaying Lubbock from Akame ga Kill; which started airing a few weeks ago for the Summer 2014 season. I'm an avid reader of the manga as well.

I imagine it would be easy to put together (stop me here if you think it's overly difficult). If you look at the reference picture (which I hope I linked correctly), Lubbock has a White and Red ringer t-shirt. But as I am short on money; I'm not able to acquire said ringer t-shirt, because I'm prioritizing my budget on other things such as the wig, the long, and the fur coat he wears [which I'm going to have to sew the fur onto a raincoat for], and other stuff.

Instead of the red and white ringer shirt, I plan on using Fakku's own Mega Milk shirt; which is the closest thing in my closet that I could find. I've had it for a while and don't usually wear it, so it's in pretty darn good condition.

My question is geared to going to conventions: Would con-goers shame me for not going 100% accurate? Or would they give me a high-five for wearing something from the Fakku store? Or just not care at all?

Forgive me for improper formatting if I've done so. I'm relatively new to the forums, but I've been on Fakku for awhile now.

The cosplay outfit doesn't have to break your wallet nor be 100% accurate.

Some cosplay tips is to look at consignment stores such as Goodwill and cheaper stores such as Walmart for basic things such as the shirt and pants. May also luck out on other items as well. It's a cheap alternative to custom ordering the outfit. Could also surf the net on various sites such as eBay and Amazon or just use google shop and try typing in various things you need.

Creativity for a dime is not hard. If you find some goggles that work but in the wrong color cover the lenses with duck tape and spray pant the actual material red (need to look into the right paint for the right material). And if you are able to find a cheap log green coat you can go to a craft store and buy fur to makeshift stitch on (it's not hard, just time consuming to put it on by hand).

As for the wig you don't need the most expensive wig on the market, just do some research for something affordable.

The claw parts you can make out of something like clay and spray paint silver or use foil and cuttable metal (gotta keep in mind that you need to be safe for cons so don't make it sharp).

Lastly I would suggest just wearing the mega milk t-shirt on its own instead of with the cosplay. No one will think it's wrong if you want to wear it instead of the shirt, but it takes away from the overall look of the character you want to do and people won't get who you are cosplaying as with it. If you have to just buy a cheap white t shirt from a consignment shop and color the collar red with a marker or something.

Thanks for the advice; I'll put this into great use! This is getting me pumped to actually get to work on it right now. Alas, college homework is a thing right now.

Usually people dont care in the sense that you're recycling a shirt that is questionable or plain in design.
If they appreciate you or the series, they wont anyways
But I'm pretty sure American Apparel has these

You're fine.

People who cosplay shame are pretty few and far between, especially at big conventions. At worst, people won't get it and they'll be indifferent, but nobody goes calling out people.

I mean, I walked out and ruined Momoka for people by having glasses and a dick. Nobody gave me shit for it, haha.
