I just find it really ironic that someone who is technically stealing by law is calling out Jacob who is trying to legitimize hentai in America.

What's exactly so unethical about his practice? Since hentai is rising in popularity in America he decides to bring it over legally through official means. Uncensored with official translations. The exact same thing happened with manga in America when companies like Viz and Kodansha started taking down manga hosting sites. Even so Fakku itself still is a hentai hosting site, not to mention Jacob himself said he only asked them to put his releases on the "do not upload" list.

It was certainly bad timing but in reality it's more like he became a huge scapegoat

Quite the slippery slop we got here if viewing modified(often heavily) non-commercialed work is "stealing". By that logic, viewing let's plays or listening to a some fans cover of a certain song is also stealing.

As someone who wants to wants to create content(vidya games) that's enjoyed and appreciated by many, I wouldn't feel right about trying to protect my IP that hard, especially in areas where the service is non-existent or illegal. Piracy generally opens up more doors than it closes. I'm not to fond of steam these days but Gaben was right, Piracy generally is a service problem.(that netflix idea doesn't seem bad to be honest)

The Japanese RAWs is the real problem.

So, it's not a service problem for the western community that started the DMCA but it's more the Japanese people pirating the Japanese raws from western hosting sites.

The Comic-Han debacle is probably the strongest cause, Japanese Raws uploaded 1 month before the actual magazine release date.

Even if you managed to convince every site to block Japanese IP's(I think Fakku is blocked in Japan), it wouldn't prevent people from acquiring raws. Fighting non commercialized content on the internet is a pointless uphill battle. Also I'm not sure about how "try before you buy" does in Japan, but there still seems to be a conflict of interest if customers/potential customers don't want to automatically commit to a purchase.

But Japan is the only country where Wani get their actual sales from (and small number of insignificant imports).

I'm not here to debate whether Piracy is good marketing or straight up stealing, but I'm just explaining one of the possible major causes for Exhentai's content removal.
