A lot. Most of them are spin-offs and the only ones that follow the main story( Unlimited Codes is basically F/SN) are Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Hollow Ataraxia("sequel") eroges. There are many works(VN, game, LN) by Nasu(creator of F/SN) that may take place at the same time and indirectly influence Fate, but do not feature it as the focus. Some LNs in the Fate universe were written by different people given licensing rights by Type-Moon but I don't like them..it's just more Fate/Milking.

Kaleid was my first entry into the Fate series and I felt like I was able to follow it well. There probably were some references that I missed but there's not really any prerequisites to watching it.

I'd have to disagree with you on that Lughost. From the first season of Fate/Kaleid I watched, I saw reoccurring characters from the series but Fate/Kaleid's universe established them with enough to go on by and most only acted as cameos. It's not really necessary and to gazz from just the cameos you'd have to be sold on the characters/series in the first place.
