Jade Dynasty (MMORPG)

Jade Dynasty is a new RPG at http://perfectworld.com/ that, to me, feels very much like a perfect medium between Perfect World and WoW.

You start the game as a lowly class called an "Initiate." It is basically your noob class with little to no armor, and only a few skills.

At level 15, you get to choose a Faction. Your faction is basically your class.

The Factions are:

EDIT: I was misinformed about what some of the classes do, and their descriptions are very vague.

Jadeon - The premier ranged damage dealer in Jade Dynasty. Jadeons have powerful AoE (area of effect) spells that make them effective levelers. High cast times and low defense make them vulerable at close range.

Skysong - The only class that is capable of healing and buff other players. Skysongs have low defense and limited offensive capabilities early on but make powerful allies in late game PvE and PvP.

Vim - The primary tank class. Vims have high defense and deal powerful blows to single targets. They lack ranged attacks and become less effective during the later levels.

Lupin - The rogue faction of Jade Dynasty. Lupins deal heavy melee damage but suffer from low defense. Their high critical rate makes them dangerous assassins but they are less useful in group fights. Ideal class for beginners.

Modo - Modos are the main offensive spell casters. Their phsyical appearance and spell arsenal which includes curses, DoTs, and nukes mark them as formitable Warlocks. The Modo faction is the most difficult to play, especially since they are rather weak during the early levels.

The Faction you see me playing as in the above screenshot is the Lupin.

This is how you rest in the game, it is called Meditating. The thing that is special about it on here though, is that you constantly gain EXP while Meditating in a safe zone (town.)

Side note - The thing flying next to me is an Esper, I will cover these a bit further down.

Jade Dynasty has a rather simplistic battle system, one that the majority of MMORPGs use. Just click to attack an enemy and auto attack, and hit the hotkey for whatever skill or spell you want to use.

Now I will move on to Espers and magic. Espers are supernatural creatures that follow you around. These are the source of your magic, basically. They give you your spells (at least for melee classes, I'm not sure for mages.) They also add to your stats. To level them up, you must use their spells to get to 100% Esper Proficiency. You get one point per cast, to get to lvl 2 you need 350 points.

At lvl 5 (and again at 45), you get to quest to get yourself a pet. Your pet is a cute little creature that follows you around and helps you fight. They have rather useful skills, such as one to raise the damage percentage the mob takes from you. But you have to feed them to keep them out, or else they will get hungry and de-summon themselves.

They also have two other functions, Fuse and Esperate. Fusing with your pet raises your defence and all of your resistances. Esperating raises the effect of whatever Esper you currently have equipped. Your pets lvl, rank, or whatever you want to call it, directly effects how much it impacts you in both of these areas.

Once you join a Clan, you get skills that work for you entire Clan. You get skills to share experiance, raise HP, raise SP, ect. Some of the skills must be cast and are not passive. To rank up these skills, it works the same as lvling up your Esper. But it gets 1 point for every person that casts it.

You also get quests that work for the entire Clan. They sent you to a certain area to kill random enemies for 30 minutes. It gives your Clan Honor Points, which currently I am not sure what they are for. Rank or something. But everyone who participated also get XP, depending on how many you kill in the time limit. We managed to kill 1.3k and got 8k XP.

Jade Dynasty also has the best marriage system I have encountered in an MMORPG. You can pay 60 USD (30 per person) to skip all the formalities. Or you can do a series of Romance Quests (these MUST be done with the person you plan to marry) for Romance Points. I forget the exact number, but I believe it is 9999 Romance Points you need to get married.

You can do the quests once a day (the timer resets at 12AM EST) for about 150 points per quest. As you get points, you also unlock lover titles to show that you are together even before you get married. The Loverbird titles you see above our heads is the second title.

The game also has catgirls!

... and pigmen..

If you have any questions about the game that I did not cover, feel free to ask here.

EDIT: These screenshots are on the lowest graphical settings, because my PC isn't too great.

First post updated because I had some facts wrong.

But no one is interested in this game? o_o I'm surprised.

I've been trying to stay away from MMORPGs because of the countless hours I've spent on them just mindlessly grinding. I've been bored lately and this game looks interesting, but I have 2 questions for you.
1. How much grinding do you have to do? (to me grinding includes quests that tell you to kill a ton of monsters for little reward)
2. If you have played Silk Road Online, which would you say is better?

Well, I wont lie, there is a lot of grinding involved. But, the game doesn't truly start until lvl 90 so they made it so that you can get to 90 as quickly as possible with a few cool features to help with this, such as:

1. A bot feature that actually isn't illegal. Normally I would look down on this, but I've found myself using it a couple of times for long grinds/farming when I went afk or had to leave. You can customize it to attack only quest mobs and such.

2. The Meditation thing I covered in the OP.

3. A buff you can acquire once a day from the starting NPC called "God's Gift." It gives you double XP for 2 hours, and increased ATK and DEF for 8 hours. You can only use this until lvl 90.

4. One of the clan skills is to allow all online clan members to share experience. Level 1 of the skill is only 1%, so maybe about 30xp every 2-5mins, so not much. But you can do quests to upgrade this (involves turning in certain items depending on the skills level.) It upgrades by 0.5% every level, so 1% > 1.5% > 2% ect.

Also, between Jade Dynasty and Silk Road Online. I personally have to say I MUCH prefer Jade Dynasty. The only free MMORPG I would say is close to Jade Dynasty is Perfect World. This is only my personal opinion though.

It's called Zhu Xian and ZX in the Philippines version. There's probably more women on the game than other RPGs. So far this is the online rpg I will play next but that's probably next year.

Thanks Deathykins, I guess theres no harm in trying out the game atleast. The whole geting to lvl 90 thing is kind of discouraging, but I'll give it a shot.

Found something to take your time while you PS3 is down, eh?

I'll try it out sometime this week. Don't know how long I'll continue to play though since MMORPGs don't really do it for me.
