Incest is seen as taboo due to the fact that that siblings that conceive children, who are directly born from the same family line, are more likely to suffer from genetic faults, due to both parents having similar DNA and are both carriers of the same genetic faults.
I have always thought that it was weird if you were to think about it so it's to do with them having a high chance of genetic faults for their children but they don't ban people that have genetic faults that can be carried on through their children from having children when it's basically the same problem.

Humankind would die out completely if those who are just carriers would be banned from having children. Besides, you could go generations without a child suffering from a mental or physical disability as a result of being a carrier of a defective gene.
