Im thinking about getting a Toshiba P105-S9337

Toshiba Specs

Its a desktop replacement, but I dont really mind lugging it to places (College) because I can store it in a backpack.. the only thing that might bother me is the battery time

I am a heavy gamer so I need a desktop-quality machine (but if there are any smaller ones with the tech specs Ill like it)

If anyone has other views, tell me ><

I say find a deal on both a desktop and a laptop because you're not going to be able to get a decent gaming laptop for a good price.

I started college with a laptop and then a year later put $1500 into my PC. I never touch the laptop, it's in the corner.

The biggest thing to consider is if you can upgrade it at all. If not, it'll probably be outdated in 18 months

If that's the case you could build/buy a great gaming machine and get a decent laptop.

I acutally dont have much experience at making a machine.. always been too lazy lol

The most ive done is like upgrading memory or a card in my computer

I bought a dell 9100 before college (also a beefy desktop replacement). Although I am really happy with my purchase I kinda wished I had bought a small cheap laptop and a nice desktop for a couple of reasons:

My laptop has a 3.2GHZ desktop processor in it which sucks up battery and the laptop gets really hot. It also weighs almost 10 pounds.
Desktops can also be upgraded and left on all of the time without worrying about them overheating.

It all depends on how much you move your laptop to play games. If you are constantly moving to play games with friends then the big laptop is worth it. But if you like doing homework in other buildings and just need a laptop then spend your money on a desktop (you can build a nice one now a days for well under 2k).

Im thinking of following the guide here except to change out some components for more up to date ones.. what do you think? (also probably gonna ebay the laptop)

I'd recommend buying a laptop with a good 1080p or higher resolution with good image quality instead of focusing for specs. after all anything you'd use a desktop for a laptop will struggle running

Curious, how long did it take for you to find this thread? Looks like a lot of "Page Down"ing.
