*Limit one per American citizen!

Personal thoughts:
First of all, I don't think there's very many people who give a shit about Obama anymore, especially after his ass passed the NDAA. Secondly, "Robama" is dumb. They shouldn't try being "witty" with Cyborg just because he's black.

Lastly: Yeah, instead of buying Death Note (well, first half anyway), Fist of the North Star, or any number of vastly superior stories that aren't just (if at all) about superheroes, I'm gonna choose to buy comics from the company that's been butt-fucking its canon and flagship characters for decades with hack writers who don't even do any background research before writing a grossly memetic and/or failed attempt to be "hip". (That goes for Marvel too last I checked, but this is about DC's lame ass).

So, what do you all think?
I left DC and Marvel behind when I was young and for good reasons. I don't want to see Spirder-man make a deal with Not-Satan or see Batgirl get crippled for no fucking reason only to have her be replaced with another Batgirl who turns out to be evil or, again, not much reason.

Also: Way to represent the States, DC.

UPDATE: Special thanks to Fakkuza "Jonoe" for this update:

"A Comic Shop," a retailer in Florida, responded on Tuesday that the content of its "Buy American" ad is a joke not intended to criticize manga reading. The ad offers one #1 comic from DC Comics' The New 52 line to anyone who trades in the first volume of any manga.
A Comic Shop's owner is planning to sell the traded manga for US$1 each. He also stated that he is "not at all anti-manga or a super patriot," and he has hosted various "anime events" at the shop. The owner also revealed that the "Robama" idea was inspired by the Steampunk Palin comic, which depicts U.S. President Barack Obama as a cyborg.
DC Comics funded 75% of the ad through a co-op advertising campaign. The ad's background image appears on the cover of the Justice League #5 comic.

As I said in my reply: I can see how it was meant to be a joke. I can also see how it doesn't change the crappiness of current day DC Comics (the company) and that the shop owner really should've thought ahead before putting this kind of sarcasm up, especially when America is not only stereotyped by these kinds of ideas, but also has companies that routinely endorse said stereotypes for shitty marketing campaigns.

Statement: Robobamba is f****** stupid.

Question: His he supposed to be the new Cyborg?

I have nothing against comics, has some can be good. But to say manga fan's aren't American for buying comics is stupid. I mean really Robobamba. Just fucking stupid.

What's hilarious is that these are mostly drawn by Japanese artists.

Neg rep, huh? Either someone humps the American flag while licking DC comics and was offended by my opinion on this nonsense, or someone didn't read past "Check this".
I'm thinking both.

Hah Maybe. Never know.

There are a lot of amazing non-Asian artists in the industry, but half the time you'll notice that they're forced to alter their personal style to fit what's popular these days, and more often than not what's popular is parallel to the tropes and styles of manga.

Fuck comics, Manga all the way.
In Manga the story is more broad, it could be Slice of Life, Romance, etc.
What I remember about comics that it's just about a bloody super hero, and it's boring..

Comics have no plot based on what I've read. Just another criminal of the week. Occasionally you'll get a writer that actually cares about plot. No one reads the comic.

Men in tights? No thank you.

Batman isn't stupid enough to argue with Haruhi.

In my opinion: Comics > Manga (there are a few titles that are exceptions).
BUT I frankly don't like the usual "Superhero" comics. It's way overdone.
This is pretty stupid though. HAHA.

I see no reason to choose.

You mean Western Comics VS Manga? Yeah, neither do I, Kitten Lolita. Still, I do see more proof why not to choose DC.

A lot of the more indie Western stuff is better. The biggest problem is that most of the Western comics are either political/social satire or superhero comics. It's been ages since I've seen something different. Even a good superhero comic is rare now.

Then again, it's been a while since I was in Forbidden Planet, so...

Manga = comics. It's all the same to me. As long as the story and art are good I'll read it. DC is being silly.

This.

Why does everyone ignore things like cultural differences when discussing such things? The stereotype of comics having superheroes and wearing tights is the same as saying, manga always has those little kids with ridiculous super powers.

There are even stories that influenced the comics and movies of today like "Lucifer", "All-Star Superman", "The Killing Joke", "The Dark Knight Returns", "The Long Halloween", "Watchmen" and "The Sandman" to name a few. The stories in those are far darker than what typical comics show and are a hell of a read. Yes, I know more about Batman and DC comics as a whole.

"The Sandman", "Watchmen", "The Killing Joke" and "The Dark Knight Returns" are some of the biggest titles among comic fans and I would recommend a read on them.

Stories from Marvel involving cosmic powers are good and I daresay far better than the typical "oh no, Joker/Green Goblin is at it again!" One of my favorite stories is "The Infinity Gauntlet", involving Thanos, who acquired said item and is virtually unstoppable, even The Avengers are helpless against him. The threat is on the universal scale that even Celestials (pretty much a few steps below the strongest beings in the universe) and even Galactus himself get involved.

"The Walking Dead", "Y: The Last Man" and "Hack/Slash" are good examples of non-superhero comics. Obviously, the first one is about zombies, the second one is literally what the title says, trust me, it isn't even close to "typical" and the third one is about a girl who goes up against serial killers, human and supernatural alike.

I would suggest reading "The Sandman" to show that there is more to American comics than just superheroes and supervillains. Everyone just has to look a bit more into the subject at hand. Same goes for anime/manga, even stuff like "Code Geass", "Fist of the North Star" and "FLCL" are more than just "typical anime/manga" and one has to look deeper. At first glance it might seem a bit too farfetched for some not used to the Japanese culture and story-telling, one might even call them "kids cartoons" (which is a huge issue, but this is not what the topic is about) until they realize the story behind "Code Geass" and the violence and reasoning in "Fist of the North Star" and that there is more depth and detail in "FLCL" but it isn't easy to understand due to our little to no-knowledge of Japanese culture at first glance.

I don't really feel there is as much variety in american comics, now there are a few american comics I like, but overall I feel there is a manga out there for everyone, comics, not so much.

No thanks. I'd rather keep my first volume of [insert manga here] than trading it in for a comic (even though I don't own a manga at all).

Lots of Cartoons,Comics, etc gets pretty boring with same thing and tend not to see many new comers with something different in the scene. I always see too much retelling, alternative universe, etc of the same character. I do respect the artwork and story of lots
comics today. But it gets pretty tiring. DC and Marvel are trying to appeal lots of International Market like others. Business wise, it works for them to keep a long history of the same thing. I prefer Marvel vs DC. hehe. But the whole Hero thing gets old and
just can't relate for some as the art lots more detail and realistic art aproach.

The culture of lots of Japanese Mangas/Anime always have a bigger genre and always interesting in my thinking. Even thought
we see many different manga/anime with the a twist of the same genre, it feels different vs the other similar genre.

Novels are pretty even in a sense America vs Japanese.

well my opinion is biased since the only comic i've read is Witchblade Takeru but i think Manga>>>>Comics since i can relate more to them.
