Ive got this really nasty cough which is making my throat really raw atm. I normally drink loads of lemon and garlic tea with honey and maybe make a nice warm beef stew/broth.

Was wondering what other people made/ate when they were a bit poorly. Any recommendations?

*pats* feel better mousey :/

Usually when I'm sick my stomach is sensitive to some things. I'll usually stick to chicken noodle soup or matzo ball soup, saltine crackers and water or a lemon/lime soda.

Ideally when I'm sick from throat and/or nose, I eat :
- breakfast : soft-boiled egg with bread and cheese fingers
- lunch : boiled ham with rice coocked in carton soup and compotes not too sour
- diner : chicken nugget with vegetables purée and hot smashed banana with brown sugar

Also, each morning when bathing before breakfast or even before bathing, I use an inhalation bath (even with just normal boiling water) in order to make all the bug/filth go out.

Avoid egg yolk and milk when down with a sore throat dear, they can make it last longer with the mucus.

Like you mentioned, plenty of lemon and honey does you good. I tend to drink a bunch of warm tea (not hot or cold, it will inflames your throat). Then there's the funky magic herbal honey that my old Chinese dad makes and stores...at least it works.

Boil and/or blend nutritious ingredients into easy to swallow soup. You're looking for veggies and proteins. I make congee since it's easy to swallow but still has texture. Stuff with plenty of onions and garlic help to sweat you out.

Chilled fruits are easy to swallow and good for you!

Always remember to eat even though your appetite is down!

I don't tink so about milk and such, since doctors recommend to eat ice cream when having a sore throat.

About egg yolk, eat a lot ! And take sunbaths. Why ? Because egg yolk contains vitamin D precursors, one of the elements what the body needs to fight against infections. Japaneses even have an egg soup reciepe for when ill.

As for lemon and sour food or spicy food, not so much recommended since the throat is inflamed. Eat parsley and small chive instead -- they contain vitamin C but won't irritate the throat.

Don't boil all ingredients, it destroys frail nutriments and vitamins like C and others. Boil those which need and add the frail ones after the cooking, as always.

As for the mucus, just do inhalation baths to get it out once or twice a day. The steam smoothes the mucus leaving and calm the throat irritation (you can even use some inhalation adjuvant). Then blow your nose, spit out a lot or force you to "cough" that out.

The only thing that sucks though is when you have a sensitive stomach and have allergies to dairy, so it isn't for everyone :,(

My cough is getting a bit better. Its a non-productive cough, so probably just a viral chest infection, but ive just been chugging tea with ginger and honey like a pro to help my poor throat. Q.Q

On this topic though, whenever I have a stomach bug, i used to always get cola from my parents (who are very much anti-soda) cause they said it would kill everything in the stomach. I think the real reason was to make miserable child me feel better with a rare treat.

Too bad. Then try to eat ice cream while drinking hot tea or hot coffee or hot chocolate ?

As for allergies, nothing can be done. You still can eat sherbet instead of ice cream.

Great parents, I assure you.

As for cola when ill from the stomach, maybe a guess...
CO2 may help/smooth the acid synthesis, and when the gas reaches the blood and spreads, it may counterbalances the postprandial alkaline wave that is normally released throughout blood during acid synthesis. Plus the eructations may decieve the stomach willing to throw up. The caffeine and citric acid help to boost, too. Long story short, it seems to help to digest even though your stomach is tired and upside-down.

I can still eat ice cream if I'm careful, but too much or eating any hen sick produces so much mucus and upset my stomach to the point That I become even more ill or puke. Sometimes ice-cream can even cause my illness (allergy cold or so I call it; basically hypersensitivity reaction). I've delt with it for years now and I know how to deal with it, hot beverages don't work and my body produces too much mucus too fast that I will purge unwillingly before I can get relief from other such alternatives.

I eat sherbet instead most of the time anyways, can't help I still enjoy ice-cream from time to time lol.

It really depends on what I am sick from. If my stomach is killing me I really don't eat anything and just drink lots of either water or a white soda. If it is my chest or sinuses then I will eat either chicken noodle or sometimes something spicy (only for sinuses).

Depends on the sickness. If there no nausea or stomach problem then OJ and pizza. Add stomach issues then chicken broth or some soup. I have issues with the throat often. Tea doesn't do shit. Gargling water salt water works. Flu then lemon tea or ginger ale.

If you have gasrto-enteritis, you better avoid :
- soup
- most of vegetables
- spices
- coffee, tea and the likes
- even milk

White rice and carrots work fine with chicken or ham, at least. Eat yoghourt, that helps to recover from the mess within intestines.

You're probably better by now but when you have a sore throat, you should generally stay anyway from oily things, doesn't exactly help. If you have Asthma like I do, then you'll want to stay away from dried fruits(Sulfur Dioxide used to dry fruits). Also ginger works wonders for sore throats. I usually go finely chop up fresh ginger and boil it as a sort of makeshift tea.

I actually only just got better from a heavy infection as well. If you're not already, hope you get better soon!

When sick, usually it's salted crackers, soup, mainly chicken noodle or vegetable, or sometimes a beef broth soup as long as it's not too thick. Try to stay away from acidic foods if your throat is raw, it'll hurt more I find.
Do try to stay away from milk, and other dairy products, it causes more phlegm.
Stick to teas or fruit juices (apple/orange).

Soft foods in general are best, try to stay away from sugary foods.

Ramen will do

For me, it is almost entirely dependent on what particular ailment is afflicting me.

If I'm sick with something that tends to make me vomit, I avoid most foods that I know I can't keep down while sick, and I make sure to take small, frequent sips of water to avoid dehydration and speed up recovery. If it's something that makes my muscles weak and sore, I eat foods that boost immune function and encourage more efficient circulation, as well as drinking more water (water intake facilitates faster flushing of the body through the kidneys, which again, minimizes time spent being sick). I also take comfortably hot baths to relax my body, and hopefully create a less desirable living condition for my particular infectious micro-organism, as well as sweating out anything that might be in the skin.

That's just me, though.

I have saltine crackers and soda water. Any kind of ice cold soda will help, but you should stick with sparkling water, ginger ale, or lemon lime soda, as others have this thick syrup that adds the flavors in. And that syrup might not sit well in an upset tummy. Remember to stay hydrated as well.
Sometimes my stomach can handle Ramen when sick but other times Not so much. I can usually down jello okay, and koolaid or tea, but that's just me.
