For those who have a shitty job (post your job rants)

NEXUS Since 2010
I made this thread in hopes of hearing others thoughts and feelings on their shitty jobs and how they deal with it. Don't get me wrong, I understand that you gotta do what you gotta do to get by but I just want to offer a place for fellow fakkers to vent if they so choose.

To start this thread off I'll contribute my own piece about my shitty job.

I come from a lower middle class family who taught me that the real world isn't easy. As a teenager I brushed it off as bs. The present me would love to go back in time and smack the shit out of my teenage self and instill a harsh reality on how shit works in the real world. I'm not completely retarded but there are a lot of things I can't completely comprehend.

Sometimes I feel as though that when they were giving out brains I got the shittiest one while everyone else got the top of the line brain. I'm rambling now so lets move on to the point of this thread. I'm a musician by passion but in the real world that doesn't get you paid unless enough people give a shit about what you are doing. For now I live with my folks paying them rent and working as a dishwasher at some shitty pub in a South-Western town in Canada. I'm what you'd call a germaphobe but since my boss is a cheap, stupid, high, drunk I have to be responsible for not only washing dirty dishes submerged in bacteria infested sludge but I also have to touch clean dishes with my filthy fucking hands (because if I stop to wash my hands more dishes will pile up.

I'm also responsible for making deserts so when an order for desert comes up I have to stop trying to clean the huge fucking mountain of dishes and pour chocolate syrup on a rectangular plate, throw a piece of cheese of cheesecake and top it off with a few little dollops of store bought whip cream. The horrible thing about the place I work is that people here just don't give a fuck and I sadly have stopped giving a fuck as well.

It's all about getting a paycheck. Not about doing a good job, not about giving customers quality service and quality food. It's all about making fucking money. Sure, making money is good, but I feel like an asshole the way I have to work to get by. Unfortunately that is the reality I've been dealt.

UPDATE!

I sent in a resume online to Carl's jr last night and today I got a phone call for an interview the same day. I went in and talked to the manager and she was basically trying to sell me the job as opposed to me trying to sell myself with my credentials. Turns out I was a perfect fit and was hired the same day. I just brought my letter of resignation to my shitty job tonight (May 5th) and I start training on Sunday. I got lucky, but I hope everyone else finds something better. Carl's jr isn't a dream job by a long shot but at least they give a fuck about foodsafe and will give me a chance for advancement within the company. Also I don't have to worry about massive piles of dishes anymore (except for the last 2 weeks since I'm going to work my last scheduled hours).

I know that feel my brother...

Well lets get to it then. I work as a cleaner for coverall, a heath based company. Pay is shit and so is my hours. Main place I work at is in a jewish temple and let me tell you that shit goes down in there. The men shower room (ritual bathroom) has to be clean by yours truly and yea at first its kinda unhuman to have to pick up pubic hairs the size of an intentsion cord but you start to not care anymore. The worst thing that can happen is you walk in there to clean and see hairy ass cheeks. At that point just get out quickly and imagine kittens or something cute

Another thing is they will not clean up after themselves. I guess they figured that hey! We got cleaners so why throw away our used tissue? Or why flush the toilet? Or why not WALK OVER A MOPPED FLOOR AFTER THE CLEANER FUCKING SPENT 45 MINUTES MOPPING AND MAKE IT LOOKED LIKE BEFORE? LIKE REALLY?!?

Another thing they stare like fucking hawks. Act like they never seen a black brotha clean before and they are kinda sexiest.

I'm trying to find another job but It's hard as hell these days.

Damn, that's terrible, cleaner for a Jewish temple? Hairy ass cheeks? Pubes?
I am saddened for your sorrow.

I work for this company who pays me to type shit. My boss is an elderly deaf fuck who is prejudice and discriminates foreign and local workers. At least I get paid enough to live without major financial problems. I am actually kinda happy(?) working for that company but I can't stand my boss. She yells and gives all the damn promotions to those local workers. But she's probably gonna retire in a year or two.

Still, sad to hear dude. Wish you luck in your future.

Work at a restaurant

Whoever told customers they were always right was a complete dumbass. Customers in the area I live in must have IQs that are border line retarded cause I don't see how food would get cold on a 100 degree day and it goes from coming out of a oven, to a warmer, to driver bag, to the house. Also when placing an order try to put the person who is placing the order on the phone so you don't need to keep turning around to ask them what they want, and don't have your music blaring loudly so I can barely hear you then you get made at me cause you think I am playing around...

I can complain about my job forever. I get paid decently just people get on my nerves so much.

I can't even get a job. I either don't hear back or get rejected. Employers where I live are really fucking picky about who they employ. Picky is an understatement. I've been turned down for Cleaning jobs. CLEANING.

At my voluntary place, I get the odd customer who comes to the till with everything they want, then while I'm in the middle of ringing up their orders suddenly decide have another long browse throughout the entire shop, holding up everyone else in the queue. I haven't been taught how to void an order so I usually have to get someone who does know to cancel it. It's infuriating.

Then there's this Jamaican woman whom everyone in the shop has to bend over backwards for because she's so particular about how she wants things done; gets us to add up her entire shop for her on a calculator and snipping off the pricetags as we're ringing up her shop, to name a couple of things.

I work in a discount retailer filling the shelves up and some times it's ok but i don't like it.

i get paid 20p above minimum wage which is about £6.41

my shift starts middle of the day at 2pm and there is no proper finishing time as we finish when all the stock is out which can between 6pm to 10pm depending on how much has sold and on size of stock that gets sent, which makes hard to plan anything has if i start something in the morning i need to make sure i have enough time to get home and get ready for work and can't plan anything after work as i don't when am going to finish.

if we finish quickly then we get a shit wage but if finish late we get a better wage but lose most of the day.

the store manger is a dick and nobody really like him.

to book holidays off even for a single day we have to do it 4 weeks in-advance.

then there are customers that are very annoying and some that just stink

I'm not saying mine is the worst or even that bad, but I gotta work at McDonalds.

The actual workers aren't that bad. Mostly late high-school to college age people just trying to get by. The managers tend to be dicks though, and when it comes to getting breaks (which are mandated by the company) it sucks. Either you get your 3 breaks before you're halfway through your shift and have to work 5 hours with no break, or you get all your breaks in the last 2 hours of your shift. Not to mention if you work over 6 hours they force you an unpaid 30 min break.

Obviously the managers take everything way too seriously as if not getting the optimal time will result in people never coming back ever again. We get timed on how quick we serve orders, even though very often we get that one guy who spends 5 minutes counting out dimes to pay for his 6 dollar order. One of my managers is very passive-aggressive which really bugs the hell out of me at times.

Obviously since it's an entry level job we get paid minimum wage (which is $8 in California) with no chance for a raise. Literally the only way to get a raise is to get a promotion to manager (which is literally only like 50c to $1 difference, with the added responsibility and more overtime) or work graveyard. I've talked to people who have worked their for 3 years and still get paid the same wage because they aren't a manager. There's absolutely no reason to work your ass off for a job that won't reward you for it.

Then there is of course, the clients. You cannot believe how shitty people can be about their food. There was someone who ate half the fries in the box and then told me it had no salt so she wanted new ones. I gave her a packet of salt and she flipped out. I know there are shitty people on any service job but just informing that I have to deal with the same kind of people too.

The worst part is the schedule. Instead of giving a set schedule of when you should come in or not they set the schedule every week. Depending on your availability you could be working 5 days one week, and 2 the next. Getting upwards 40 hours, then 20 the next week. One person even got literally 0 hours for weeks because the manager made that way for some reason. I thought he quit, it turns out that the manager was just not giving him hours for some reason. Then there's the fact that you have to request days off at least a month in advance, and holidays you're very likely not to get off.

I could go on but I think the post is long enough. It's tolerable, but only because I like the people I work with. Otherwise I would've quit a long time ago.

Seriously explain to me how am I rude when I am trying to help a customer at my restaurant to order. They call and explain they had a problem with our store 2-3 years ago, now I cannot rectify a mistake from that long ago so I try to kindly get her to move on saying we will make her order how she wants it ordered, she then goes on asking the same question while constantly referring to 2-3 years ago. Then I say she is focusing on that long ago and we are trying to make her here and now good. She said something about it being recorded and she is going to call everyone higher than me to report me.

I just need an explanation how is being kind, not once raising my voice and multiple times of taking a deep breathe before I talked, rude? I agreed with her when she said the internet was a powerful tool to report me and gave her owner and store manager name if they wish to report me in that way. I just don't get it and wish if you have a problem with your food just, and I know it is frustrating, but just be calm about it and I am more likely to give you new food and something else like a credit or extra food....

My first job I ever had was working at a KFC. I agree with everyone here who complains about the fast-food industry. It is literal shit, all of it. The one positive thing I took away from it, beyond appreciating every job that ISN'T fast-food, is treating the workers with respect and kindness. You don't need to have a hissy fit every time fast-food messes something up. Seriously, customers are retards. Mad respect to everyone in the food service industry.

As far as my current jobs go, no real complaints:
I currently work 2 jobs. In the mornings from 8am to 1pm I work at Staples in the Copy and Print Department making $10.25 an hour. The main thing I do there is manage the store's in-store post office, which isn't really that bad. You put a stamp on something, and you put it in the bin. The copy and print section has its ups and downs, my biggest complaint is that it's boring and that my boss has no tolerance for sick leave whatsoever. Frickin' sick leave Nazis I swear. I don't know why it's such a big deal for me to call off work for a few days when I have the worst flu I've ever had as well as a doctor's note excusing me from work because I couldn't stop puking... but whatever.

The second job I work is at a small locally owned music store from 2pm to 8pm, which I completely love and the reason why I love it is because my boss is never there and so I close the store by myself. I get to essentially be my own boss, manage my own time, and play whatever music I want in the store. My boss supplies the workers and teachers at the store with free Red Bull, sometimes he takes us out for drinks. All around it's just a great place to be and everyone there is nothing but nice because it's in a small town. Only small complaint is I only make $9 dollars an hour and my boss isn't always the best at remembering to pay me on time. Which is why I work at Staples in the morning, so I can get a steady paycheck to pay my bills on time.

I'm a security officer. Been working for my company for about 5 months. My site's a 18-story condo with a 7-story parking garage. I work from the afternoon to just past midnight. There is a shit-ton of walking involved, since I patrol the building, and the garage (both from the top down.) I also have to patrol the perimeter. There's a time limit for all patrols and posting inside the actual security office. The bad part about posting in the office is that I either have to choose to eat or write. There is no official break. But at the very least, there's a break room connected to the office with a fridge, microwave, and sink, and both it and the office are air conditioned. There's even a cleaned-daily bathroom too! Unfortunately, I spend very little time in the break room because there's always something to write an incident report about. Even if it's just having a conversation with a tenant. I understand those are legit reasons, but I really hate having to write so much.

When I look back at myself, I wanna punch the old me in the face. I should've done better in high school, so I could've gone to a regular college instead of a community college that I dropped out of after one semester because I let my GPA tank. UGH. I'm trying to look for a new job, but there aren't a lot of places willing to hire someone with next to no experience. Especially since it took me almost two years to get off my ass after dropping out of college to actually get a job. And I only got the job because a coworker of my dad's suggested that I apply. And hey, they hired someone with no experience, and my site pays me $9.50 an hour to be there, but I detest working there. Every move I make is watched.

Not to mention my two days off are never guaranteed because there's only me and my supervisor there as security. There's two 8-hours shifts each day. I do the afternoon shift, and my supervisor comes in for the midnight shift. The problem is that every officer that's come here during my tenure, is supposed to cover the days when my supervisor and I are off, but they all fuck up within 2-3 weeks of starting and get fired, so it's me of my supervisor who have to cover them, him being the more likely because I want my two days off. I feel guilty about making him do those, so I've done an extra shift or two every month to ease his workload, but I'm tired of this. Overtime is only supposed to be a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of thing, not a possibility every week.

I want a more relaxed workplace, but every time I complain about this, I know I'm being a spoiled brat, but I'm unhappy with my current job.) I'm looking into other employment opportunities now. Hopefully I can find a job with better hours, and a better location, since this one is rather inconveniently located away from bus stops.

I made a list of pros and cons of this job for shits and giggles. Maybe the pros outnumber the cons a bit, but I still want a different job.
Pros:
-A/C in break room and office
-Break room (with fridge, microwave, sink, and bathroom)
-Pay (a bit above minimum wage)
-My mom picks me up from work (and drives me there on weekends)

Cons:
-Bus lines are infrequent when I end shift, and the closest stops are around a half mile away in either direction.
-All the walking
-Incident reports every time a tenant talks to me (all the paperwork)
-My two days off are never guaranteed (see above)

Meh. Either way I'm looking for a different job. Best of luck to the rest of you guys who're looking for jobs too.

Finished 2 15 hours shifts over the last two days and the way it started was terrible. First I open to find one of the appliances is broken so need to call a technician for that. Then a few hours later another appliance breaks and need to call someone to take it to another technician. Then of course seems like hell cause air conditioning doesn't work right. Finally before I can relax we have a small electrical fire that trips our breaker. That all happened in a 3 hour span to start that day so I had to stay for another 12...

The only thing I don't like about my job is that sometimes I don't get paid on time. At least I can play video games and watch tv while waiting for customers.

First job was a busboy at a BIG BOY restaraunt, it sucked. Collecting and cleaning dishes and cleaning up tables and floors all day.
