Really hope I'm not upsetting anyone/breaking any rules here, but is there plan of action?

I just found out today that some of my favorite manga are no longer available and I ran straight to the forums to find out what's going on and this seems to be the most official thread at the moment.

If this post is misplaced or breaking any rules/etiquette please feel free to remove it and point me to the right place! (I've been a member for just over two years and this is obviously my first post, please be gentle ;D)

This is the 'offical' thread for the PUBLIC regarding this issue, there is a more serious one going on in the Uploaders forum but thats off limits for your typical peasent (I love you guys too).

As for works being unavailable, sit tight. We're actively working it.

Can someone explain why the scanlation groups are being targeted, rather than websites like Fakku, e-hentai, or other doujin sites that host the copyrighted content?

I thought that copyright holders generally pursue the seeders, distributors, and hosts, not the original upload source.

More legal threats over hentai works? You'd think they'd be harassing more significant cases of infringement, but eh.

Maybe I should start archiving my personal favourites with that deep web application I found...[/h]

In this day and age of international IP owning companies being able to track use/mentions/uploads of their properties online, sadly for us, this was bound to happen.

These publishers and artists do have every right to want control over their property. However, hopefully some prominent artists and publishers will also take a cue from seeing how many want access to said materials, and localize their publication in other languages.

They're going after the people responsible for getting the stuff translated, other wise like Fakku! and E-H are simple aggregate websites.

Remove the people who produce the content, and there won't be anything TO upload to Fakku! or E-H.

It won't die, most likely translators go incognito and/or host sites (if targeted) would move to a .onion domain. That is if things go bad.

Yeah, it's a very retarded course of action.

When otaku started hurting the Japanese business by importing bluray from the USA, they added region lock.

When videogaming companies want someone to avoid buying a game from another region because it's cheaper, they add region lock.

The problem is not that Average Joe from the U.S.A. downloads Japanese bidimensional porn he would have little to no chance to purchase anyway, but that someone from the country of Japan is connecting to sites like e-hentai (mostly) and it's downloading terabytes worth of raw/untranslated magazines, therefore screwing the authors.

So basically, ban Japanese IPs, there aren't enough proxy services on earth to allow you to freely download porn.

What I see funny is how history repeats itself, now H groups will probably go under, everything will eventually settle down and things will keep going. They will lose a bunch of money trying to do what cannot be done (it's internet after all, there will be someone that will bite the bullet), make people angry and for mostly nothing since they are not providing a proper alternative to it.

Happened before with Megaupload for example, while it's true that quite a lot of things were lost, other ways to distribute were used, a lot of things were reuploaded, everyone learned the lesson of not relying on one site for everything and in the end nothing changed, in fact people are now even more careful about how they do it.

And I hope they are not really thinking about trying to remove all of the works forever from the net (seeing how wide they went with the legal threats and how little understanding of internet they seem to have...)

that will be the big reason.
