I sadly dont have the money or resources for playing any VN. I really wish I could though.

Katawa Shoujo is free to download. I'd highly recommend checking it out.

Thank you, I'm downloading it now and i'll be trying later.

I'll always recommend KS to anybody who asks about it, but in terms of other eroge... I've seen the cutscenes from Natsu no Saigo no Hi, and it looks pretty fantastic. I can't say I've played it, though, so I'm not sure how much I can recommend it. Actually, speaking of Natsu, has anybody here played it? [size=10]Maybe I should make a thread about that.[/h]

ive played over 200 visual novels i play them because in anime the heroine you want the main guy to hook up with is not always the one he chooses so i just go for all the girls i like in them

Kinda surprised that I've actually read more than 12 VNs now, including that free Russian VN on Steam.

Funny that this is the poll today... I've been downloading a bunch of VNs to play... I've only played one before - Fatal Relations on DS.

Well, I only played Katawa Shoujo yet. I like this game. I like the story and how the topic of living with a disability is dealt with. I especially loved the Hanako route, who is one of my favourite characters ever. I don't know if i will play more VNs since I have to work on finishing the pile of games I bought on Steam recently.

Only played Little Busters, sat through all of the dialog of each route and beyond, and played the entire game twice just to unlock Rin's true end. It was worth it.

I didn't look to see but did any mention it should be None, not interested / None, none are interesting. That was my choice btw I haven't found any that were appealing I may try one in the future but it needs to grab my attention.

So far, I've only played one of them. However, I came across a group of people who were playing them on an art site, and they gave me a good bunch of others. I downloaded two of the free ones. Gonna get around to them, at some point.

Never postet in a thread here before, but whatever....

First VN was Fate/Stay Night, and it hooked me right away. Never thought something could be better than anime, but then there comes this "new" medium to me, and since 6 years ago when i first read it i reread it many times. The feeling a VN can give you is astounding, in anime you can mostly only guess the feelings of each charackter, but here it was clear as daylight, and its captivating.

After this i tried all i could get my hands on, next was Ever17. A long, continuous story where you had to read all the charackters routes (which i of course all read like in every other VN). First it was exhausting, but it was totally worth it, an ending i would never have anticipated.

I got so curious after the two that i read anything, despite the genre. Like Saya no Uta, which made me frightened, Little Busters, which let me cry like a little child, Katawa Shoujo, you all should know that one and so on.

VN`s helped me through a pretty much hard time in my life, and now i cant imagine them to be not in my life.

Novels i also read, and i would go much deeper into detail but i dont want you all to get bored, nevertheless they are all worthwile:

G-Senjou no maou = unfortunately you can only read it one time and be facsinated, if you know the plot its just as half good

Tsukihime = With Fate a must play

Sharin no Kuni, Himawara no Shoujo = like Senjou, bust still very good the first time

Clannad = I know they have an Anime and guess what, the Anime is better than the Novel, just in the novel you can get your precious girl

Muv Luv, the wohole series = After Fate the best Novel i ever read, too much feels to explain though, sorry

Yume Miru Kusuri = Lets just say i was involved in bullying and that made me really rage at that one....

Cross Channel = Ever felt alone in your life? No one understands you? read this

Planetarian = What do you think about the planetarium?...

Utawarerumono = well finally i can spell it, twist that you wont expect

Chaos Head = Oh man, every gamer will know^^

Grisaia no Kajitsu = cant wait for the other parts, dont watch the anime, its ok but it really gets more feels out of you if you read it, much is skipped

and Rewrite = The only Key VN which couldnt make me cry, but its still a masterpiece.

Well that got really lond, sorry for that, hope some of you will read more because of that comment

Plus, there are many places that you can download some VNs for free until you can afford them. Plus, I always go on a "try before I buy" kind of idea. Don't wanna pay like $40 for a VN that I end up hating.

1. My Girlfriend Is The President (hilarious)
2. Deus Machina Demonbane (friggin amazing and long)
3. Katawa Shoujo (them feels T.T)
4. Go! Go! Nippon (a cute short game on Steam about an american going to Japan)
5. Moero Downhill Night 1 and 2 (not too bad)
6. Lightning Warrior Raidy II (cannot unsee!)
7. Heart de Roommate (meh)
8. Princess Waltz (pretty friggin awesome. a little like fate/stay night)
9. Fate/Stay Night (Infinite Blade Works. nuff said)
10. Cosplay Fetish Academy (not sure if I lol'd in a good way)
11. Yumina The Ethereal (too much damn level-grinding. yeesh. but good.)
12. Sakura Spirit (worst-ending-ever. better be a sequel for that kind of ending)
I feel like such a sad person now...T.T........but I love them. :D

Too many to count, but it should be near 200+. At recent years I've almost never played them because of work and the dip in quality (and really boring genres), but my favorite...

Series wise, Venus Blood. I keep on going back for every game they released!

Individually, Baldr Sky as THE best visual novel that combined both action gameplay and story together.

Strategy favorite includes Sengoku Rance.

Turn-based favorites is Big Bang Age.

Eushelly series is pretty good, but ironically they consume so much time that I just can't finish any of its recent products.

Music-based No.1 will always be Kira Kira. Nothing else but Symphonic Rain came close to it.

Emotional Slice of Life VN No.1 is Clannad, end of story. Ever 17 is also awesome but gets repetitive (the plot twists though, especially when you're experiencing it the first time...).

Best stiff-animated VN goes to Muv Luv Alternative WITHOUT QUESTION, and it will likely stay there for a looooooooooooong time.

Best visual VN? Just look at Type Moon. Mahotsukai no Yoru is a wet dream WAY ahead of its time.

Best sci-fi VN is Muv Luv Alternative again, though this is pretty obvious.

Best mystery VN. I was going to say Phoenix Wright, but then they kind of don't count as one (I didn't play the original 2001 VN), so Dangan Ronpa. 999 Hours feels good, until you realize that the ending is so, SO bad.

Best gore VN - My imagination, duh! Seriously though, I really seldom play these kind of VNs because they don't really appeal that much, but if I have to choose it will be MinDead Blood and Gore Screaming Show. In fact, I highly recommend Gore Screaming Show because the story is pretty good (MinDead is too).

Cartagra and Kara no Shoujo belongs in the excellent category, but doesn't really stand out as a top contender due to certain flaws. This is EXTREMELY obvious in Kara no Shoujo 2, where the VN is unable to stimulate the reader (namely, me) in any way after 3 hours of reading. And fuck sequels to alternate endings btw, like WTF are they even thinking?

As for Dungeon Crawling, for this year I'd recommend 剣の街の異邦人 ~白の王宮. Has a fresh concept to obtaining loot, clean interface, and really challenging battles.

And finally, Adventure. I'm actually surprised how little of them remained in my mind. The problem is that most VNs love to trap their characters in just one particular setting (do you realize that it's almost ALWAYS a city?), and even in a fantasy world there's no real sense of exploration to it - the world map is almost always just for show. Eushelly is one of the few companies that tries really hard to expand a grand adventure throughout the world with actual depiction of different lands and countries, so huge kudos to them.

But without a doubt, the top No.1 adventure-genre VN even until today is Ein no Aselia. I don't think I'll ever play a second adventure-genre VN again that touches my heart so. It's also one of the few VNs that sychronized gameplay and storytelling well. Classic, heroic, and a beautiful story that I will never forget.

EDIT: I forgot, but of course the best mecha VN goes to Demonbane. I think it also wins the coolest VN ever in history award, but then the company always make cool-as-fuck VNs so I can't give a verdict.

To much to count... My best picks was some classical VN pre 2008. After that, I switched to elaborated flash game / rich gameplay game.

This originally would have been hard to answer, but Grisaia no Kajitsu is my number 1 favorite.I would love to play the entire trilogy, I am in the process of getting parts 2 and 3 right now.

some honorable mentions include:
Monster Girl Quest (all of it)
Muv-luv series
Fate/stay night series
Dual Savior
Alcamey god meister
Shuffle (this was my very very first visual novel)
Da Capo series
