I'm 5'11, 19 years old and weight 290lb. I have been trying to lose weight since I was 15 but would always fail at it. I'm not much of a vegetable or fruit guy and I'm willing to start and go to the gym. On top of this I barely have motivation and never had a reason to lose the weight. Reason why I brought this up is because I want to try and lose 60lb before AnimeNext which is June 8-10. Some questions: 1. What are some foods that should be cut out and some good diet plans. 2. All I care about right now is cardio so how should I work out. 3. things to say so I don't give up. Thank you for your time.

P.S. - I'm willing to go the lengths to lose as much weight as possible in 5 months so lay it on me.

When going to the gym or jogging at a park or something, bring a friend along for motivational purposes. Believe me it helps. As far as diet goes, stay away from fast food and soda!

Drink a lot of water, you have to have a healthier diet, begin lifting weights(3 or 4 days a week) and running. It takes time to lose weight so don't expect quick results and you need to stay motivated and work hard if you want to lose weight.

This topic really helps out allot.

Also eat at least 3 meals a day and don't eat anything after 17PM! Eat allot of whole grains such as wheat(Wheat bread), lose the soda and sweets, drink only water.

This.

It takes a certain degree of discipline to get up every morning and have a good workout and make good healthy meals.

I guess what motivated me personally was the fact I work in a hospital and I see heaps of obese people with diabetes, hypertension, heart problems etc. Which scared the shit out of me.

Personal experience shows that weight training drops a lot of fat and builds muscle also improving functionality in general.

Absolutely stay away from junk food and drink a lot of water. A lot of the times one thinks they are hungry when they are actually thirsty.

Food-wise maybe cut down on carbs (you still need these in your diet though) and go for high quality proteins in chicken and beef. Preferably prepare your own meals as the stuff you buy outside may have a lot of sauces that pile on calorie for the sake of improving flavour (a little salt and pepper goes a long way in terms of seasoning your own food).

if your trying to lose weight, then you need to do aerobics (stamina exercises, like running, swimming, etc). lifting weights is anaerobic, which is great for getting stronger and bulking up, but you won't lose weight. I did a lot of weight lifting last summer, and I went from 150 lbs to 165 lbs.

running is boring, but you're gonna have to find a way to motivate yourself. I'm extremely competitive, so I get motivated to run by racing against other people. I can't tell you what motivates you, so you're gonna have to figure that out, and expose it.

good luck

Theres a topic like this before...
Back to the Q, my suggestion is really holding on in what you believe in, and be disciplined with food intake.
Eat healthy.

It really depends on your goal, since you want to lose 60 lbs you want to do something that makes you sweat. A LOT. The more you sweat the more fat you burn. My work out regimen consists of 1 hour of running/push-ups/sit-ups/dips/jump rope/leg raises. Then I go do weights/cardio for another hour. Lastly I finish off with some swimming. So roughly 3 hours a day I'm at the gym, after this I drink a protein shake. Protein is a GREAT thing to have if you want to lose fat/gain muscle quickly. Nothing is instant but the protein just helps move it along. This is a physically demanding work out.
I suggest start slow, you are going to hate it at first and want to quit so many times, I agree with Kouki bring a friend along it helps with the moral support. With a friend I find myself pushing myself more. Drink lots and lots of water, eat regularly. Junk food is a no no, but its alright to have it at times. You don't have to cut out all the bad food, you just need to control yourself. As for the workout I recommend running/swimming, those two are the best cardio exercises in my opinion. If you want you can go buy some protein. I just use Whey Protein by GNC, it costs about $30.00 for 32 servings.
I wish you luck ^_^

Go to an Army recruiter, pick up a PT booklet, do every exercise and run regularly. Guys I met at BCT had amazing results from it. I was underweight and gained 30 lbs in 9 weeks, others lost weight and across the board the PT works wonders on people. Whenever you have the opportunity do a small exercise and do as many reps as possible. Good luck and Godspeed.

Hmm... if you're looking for more exercise, then I'd recommend something other than just like going to a gym all by yourself and running around in circles.

Jazzercise or martial arts or whatever, join an organization that meets 2-3 times a week; you want the camaraderie that makes it "fun" and you want the social pressure of "meeting up with people" to help motivate you.

In terms of diet, eat three meals a day, and don't snack, that is, don't eat outside your meals. Avoid fast food, avoid fatty food, avoid salty food; if you're worried about flavor, learn to love spicy food. Ah, and soda (which is acidic) tastes terrible with spicy food, so with that, you can control your soda intake too.

60 pounds by June... so, that's six months away. That's 10 pounds a month, or like 2-3 pounds a week. That is your goal: not 60 pounds six months down the road, but 2 pounds by next Friday. Go to Wal-mart and buy a scale and a calendar; put 'em in the bathroom, and weigh yourself every day and write that down on the calendar. Don't worry about what you'll weigh in six months, worry about what you'll weigh tomorrow. Right now, your aim is simple, to never weigh more than you did yesterday.

Anyway, now that you have your long-term goal, break it down into medium- and short-term goals. You want to casually improve all the time, rather than struggle to improve occasionally.
