If I had a millon dollars shit would go down :)

Go to shit countries, buy houses and then rent them out to people to steadily turn some profit.

Keep saving 'til I have enough to safely play some stocks- enough to balance out any potential failures.

Invest in sustainability, clean energy, and space- because I give a shit.

Buy some land and build a 100% self-sufficient house- totally off the grid so I don't have to put up with bills. Far removed from society so people would leave me the fuck alone.

Build a small tavern in a small town. A brewery as well.

Yours seems to take alot of time, let alone money. A million dollars can only go so far.

OT: Get better computer equipment then get more video game consoles (all of them, really). After that, I'd have everything necessary.

As to grandiose things; well, a million dollars won't get you as much anymore. It's not like I can buy a car of solid gold or anything (Hell, with the way gas prices are, just filling it up might as well cost a million).

It's all about playing smart and patience.

That's why I said shit countries; the money would go further, so I could buy more places. Rent them out to vacationing families or something and slowly rake in the extra.

The splurging happens afterwards- primarily on my own house. Spend whatever it takes to get it right off the grid, so I won't have to pay for it again.

If it's a "shit country" why are people vacationing there?! XD

I'm just messing with you; you can do whatever you want with this purely fictitious lump of cash that we all somehow acquired one day with no suspicion from the police. I wonder where did this money come from and should we be afraid?

"Shit" country as in currency of significantly less value to the dollar. I should have said shit currency.

I would prefer raw materials more, since they rarely lose value quickly.

Adopt some dogs to keep the property safe. $100
Make basement and attic. $50,000

Give $100,000 to my aunt. (optional)
Give $100,000 for food for the needy and homeless. (optional)

In the cheapest, I'd say I only need $174,100 ($100,000 home and $20,000 walls) to live my ideal life.
Add the extra 100,000 for my instruments toys of science. = $274,000

Total with all optionals. $674,100.

Now see, here, most of that is living in the slums kinda stuff.
2k car is a shitbox. very sub par.
A dog costs $110 to adopt from the pound
a 50-200k house would be a shitbox as well. Especially in the country.
In average, 600k is how much it costs to raise a child up to the age of 16 (if memory serves) so that'd help them, but still not paying all of it
1-2k would probably only get you a pistol or three. nothing bigger (unless your content with a pistol, then that's all good)
Unless you made the walls from something cheap, I doubt it'd be that cheap. Concrete is expensive as shit

But yeah, our economy is fucked, so that doesn't help.

1: I haven't really made any sort of effort to know the average good property price, or locations. I thought "A 50,000 home? Talk about cheap. Just needs a bit of reparations. Perfect to have someday.".

2: I heard from relatives that in the long run, buying a used car is better.

3: 600,000? For raising a kid? What the fuck is that!? Since when? How? Seriously, that just sounds nonsense. Was it specified what class was the kid to be raised in?

1. You're better off looking up the higher end, so you don't get stuck having to do tonnes of repairs and blowing out your budget on stuff. Unless, you can find a cheap house that is good for that much, in which case, you've done well

2. Yes and no... a used car for 2k (here) would be something that's done close to 300thou km's... and that's a LOT. I picked up my 1996 ek civic for 2k, and it needs about a grand or more worth of stuff doing to it. There was a slightly nicer one for 3k, but it needed exactly the same stuff done to it (Timing belt, major service, etc) Figured I'd save the extra 1k for repairs.
but generally, you'll only find lemons. To be safe (here) about 4-6k is perfect.
However, ALWAYS keep spare money for any things that go wrong, and/ or for future repairs.
Solid cheaper cars that will live forever: Corollas, civics, charades. Most older japanese cars.

1 & 2: Thanks for the tips. I wont forget them.

3a: The article is somewhat implying that all kids are spoiled. I'm generation Z, I stopped being spoiled at around 6, when I knew what a budget was. Always teach your kids what money is best for as soon as possible.

ie: "Son, imagine if you're alone in your own home. You have $300 after the rent and bills, what would you buy?". The correct answer wouldn't be "ecks bawks 360", but saving up for emergencies.
On cheapness, seriously, I think parents shoudn't spam "God says it's a sin to be greedy!!!", but "If you spend money on this, you wont have money for that.".

3b: Solution: be cheap and teach your kids to not be spoiled.

3c: The article mentioned dance and sports. Why is it always dance and sports? Of what use is letting one's kids learn any of those, if their job will NEVER be based on either. That's just mainstream and cliché.

1&2: Np

3a: True, quite true. But, it seems to be the average these days

3b: Exactly right

3c: It's not so much that there won't be any jobs based on these, more so it gives you a past time/ hobby.
I play hockey every weekend, have done since school. I love it. My brother plays for the country, and was in the olympics cause of it. It's sort of a job for him. Not a very high paying job, mind you. A friend of mine has been to nationals for dancing a fair few times.
But yeah, it's always good to have a hobby/ sport to play

Definitely use some to pay for the servers on Fakku so we can have Lolicon again. Otherwise, just pay off debts, temporarily hire a maid, upgrade the appliances in my apartment, find a way to buy the apartment so I can live here forever, video games, MegaMan figures, video games, upgrade my computer's components but not replace the computer itself cuz I love this thing, video games.

And yeah, that's about it.

For the house one: In many cases its cheaper to just find a plot of land and build your own complex.
Those who sell houses tend to get a pretty decent commission. Plus, making your own apartment complex cqn gt you some money on the side too.
