Sony Vegas 10 Pro?

Um...How do I put this? I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring out how to work Vegas 10 because it's my first time using a video editor other than Movie Maker.

Does anyone know how to use it to a decant extent?

I'm somewhat new, but I could probably answer some questions. here's some basics:

- go to file > properties to choose the video settings (you probably want the resolution to be the same as the input files, and the fps to be 29.7)
- to add media, go to file > import media, select the files, & it should appear in the upper left box, then just drag it to the track,
- video files have an audio attached; press ctrl+U to ungroup
- press S to cut a clip
- click the edge of the clip to alter the length the clip (this does not alter the speed)
- click the edge of the clip while holding ctrl to alter the length of the clip by speeding/slowing it
- press M to make a marker (these are very helpful when placed on the beats)
- click the corners of a clip to gradually fade it, click the top of the click to change the opacity (transparency)

if you have any questions, let me know. I myself am not very good with effects, but I can make decent videos with the above knowledge alone

here's my AMV that I made with sony vegas 10

I was asking you people because YouTube has thousands of tutorials and I really don't know what exactly I'm supposed to put in the search terms. I was going to ask how to make basic video edits for intros, texts, and closings.

So in other words: You are not helping.

could you be more specific as to what you're trying to do? I didn't realize it, but I made my post thinking only about how to make AMVs (Which is pretty much the only thing I use vegas for)

I plan on using Vegas because

1: WMM is not on my computer
2: WMM does not support a lot of formats

I'm going to make a video for anime voice actors and seiyuus. The video basically consists of an opening with a picture of the VA/seiyu, clips of their voice acting in various anime, and then a closing featuring any roles I missed because of either

1: I couldn't find a clip of them
2: I couldn't find a clip of them speaking for a good deal of time.

The ending would probably have a song and a small slideshow of images of the characters I missed because of 1 and 2 and then at the very end, it will say that I do not own any of the anime shown.

Also, in my videos, I take no responsibility for spoilers.

So you negative rep me because you were too lazy to include specifically what you were looking for in the OP? Did you expect me to answer a general question with full detail on how to use every feature in the program?

A simple "what are you looking to do" or "what kind of things do you need to know" would be suffice

Why would I need to ask that? Why couldn't you just put it in the OP in the first place? It's as annoying as people asking "Guess what?" and then waiting for a reply.

@Daedulas, you really aren't helping at all, I don't see the purpose of your posts

anyways, I'm not very good with audio editing, so can't really help you with that. It sounds like you need resources, basic text, transitions, and possibly lip syncing.

for anime clips, I use nyaa torrents, but if all you need is pictures, google images should be fine.

To get text, the top left area of vegas has 5 tabs; 1 of them says "media generators", click that, then click text. drag one of the text types onto the track. Make sure you place the text on the upmost track, because otherwise the text might be "behind" the other video footage.

for transitions, I hardly used any, but what you do is similar to text; click on the "transitions" tab, and click a transition that interests you. drag it on top of the clip you want to transition to. you can "stretch" the transition, so that it lasts longer.

here's a tutorial on lip syncing, though it's not dedicated to sony vegas. I recommend using markers on each syllable, and add the proper mouth positions accordingly.

Experience is the best teacher, so experiment with what works for you

@Lelouch

I think using just pics and making it into a slideshow would turn people off. Most people on YouTube pretty much hate slideshows, so I'll probably go with my initial decision.

Thanks for specifying everything. It made things a lot easier for me to figure out the functions. As for lip-synching, I don't think I'll need it unless the clip itself is out of sync.

@Daedalus

Unless you have something helpful to offer that contributes to the topic title and that does not antagonize what I'm trying to do, please don't post. Because like Lelouch and I have told you not once or twice, but three times: You're not helping. All you're doing is being antagonistic and causing conflict.

I did help. I answered a general question with a directory of general tutorials. If someone asks me generally "How do I learn math?", I don't reply specifically "Well e^ix=sinx+cosx". I would tell them to read a beginners book. That's exactly what I did here. It is your fault for not including the details, not mine, and it was unfair to derep me for not assuming specific details. I'm still trying to help you but you don't recognize it. If you want people to help you, you have to clearly state what it is you want then people could easily point out the solutions.

Anyway, you can still use WMM. Microsoft doesn't bundle it with windows anymore but you can still download it from: http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker
You can encode it to several different formats using any simple encoders like winff, virtualdubmod, aviddemux, vlmc, mencoder, etc. If you need more versatility though, stick with sony vegas.

New question: How compatible is SV10 with different video files? I know WMM is a dick and chooses not to be.

at first, I had a problem with certain AVI files; I had to download some "avi.dll" to get it fixed. the "avi.dll" for the 64-bit version has problems for some reason. Other than that, I've been able to use pretty much all video files. It actually supported more files than my media player supported, until I got CCCP

Well, I've made 2 videos so far. the only problems I have are

1: Third party/copyright bullshit
2: Audio pitch

EDIT: Is there any way for 10 Pro to read MKV files or do I have to convert them?
