Tablet experiences for video, audio, and picture viewing?

Hey guys, I've done a fair bit of research and had decided to purchase a laptop for my portable video viewing needs, as my iPod touch resolution was killing me.

After a lot of thinking, I stumbled upon a new product I had never heard about, the Tablet, or portable handheld PC. Thing is, I have no idea what the hell this thing is and I'm so exhausted from all my laptop/computer research that I'm really hoping to see if someone would help me out. :D

Well the main uses I'm getting these portable PC's are for:
~Watching videos synced from my computer on my bed, lol.
~Manga, doujins, novel reading on the go.
~Decent amount of internet viewing.

Now my questions are:

1. Does a Tablet thingamajig work like an iPod? In simpler terms I download stuff on my PC, sync it to my Tablet, and then I am capable of watching stuff on the go?

2. How is the internet reception on tablets? I can barely get two bars/mainly one bar out of three connection on my iPod in my room because of the distance from my router. Would a tablet receive internet better than an iPod, like a PC? Or is it on a different level?

3. For my purposes listed above, is it more economical for me to just get a tablet as the usage will mainly be for media viewing? I was planning on getting a laptop in case I wanted to play games online (ie SC2) or use it for work but honestly in my case I have plenty of time to be playing games or doing my work at home on my desktop, so if the criterion above suits the Tablet without issues then it would be pointless and wasteful for me to indulge on a laptop...right?

Any suggestions are welcome, and excuse my low intellect on portable technology...let's just say I'm used to having everything already said and done when it comes to computers and stuff.

TL;DRDoes a Tablet work like an iPod touch where you can sync stuff and play it on the go, yes/no.

Oh, and if the Tablet does indeed suit my needs, I've settled between two options:

Acer ICONIA Tab A500

OR

Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1

Ideally I want it to have 32 GB space, but I'm leaning towards the Acer. Any and ALL suggestions are welcome! Thanks a lot guys!

Stop comparing everything to Apple products.

I use Dropbox to sync my files between my computer/tablets/etc "on the go" as you put it. Wireless depends on hardware so that is iffy to answer.

I've been using Apple products for as long as I remember, so making a comparison between products I've previously used is appropriate, no?

Thank you for the DropBox suggestion, I'll be sure to test it whenever something comes, however since my inventory consists of Apple, iTunes has been fine.

Only iPads have a set "sync" function. Android tablets for example usually add stuff through the explorer when you mount the tablet's internal storage. All of your views on technology seem to point towards Apple's restrictiveness, so really iPad is the ideal tab for you. However, you cannot get away from the iPad's lack very good video viewing apps and flash player. So going Android is a better choice for you. Though why don't you just get the Transformer Prime, Honeycomb is a thing of the past, ICS is the way of the future, and you get a Quad Core processor.

WHAT!? Apple has their own form of a Tablet? O_O I see now what you mean, but the only Apple product I've had is a touch, iPhone, and a loooong time ago an iPod classic.

I'd rather not spend more than $400 on a Tablet, so that takes out the Transformer Prime out of the equation. I think I'll try the Asus, because of the large amount of good reviews.
