A term coined by Kimura Sesnsei from Azumanga Daioh. He was showing a picture of his wife to students and said, "My wife" in english. With his Japanese accent it came out as, "Mai Waifu". It is used today by people to describe people (usually fictional characters) that the speaker likes a lot / is attracted to.
