Shoujo and Romance seems a bit redundant. Almost all anime series with a target female audience includes romance. Well, and magical girls. Romance and magical girls.
Personally I like the Sci-Fi, Psychological, Romance, Harem, Ecchi, and Comedy type anime. Ones with plots that I find interesting are also watched but those usually end up in one of the listed genres.
I cycle through generes. I love horror and gore animes. After that I watch a ""filler anime", a random anime of any genre, then ecchi and back to something serious.
Favorite in horror would be Another, Mirai Nikki for Psych, Madoka. Magica serious, and School Days and Seikon no Qwaser.
I usually stick to the romantic comedy genre, because I like a little of both, though I'll pretty much and genre other than mecha (lost interest after all the series Gundam had)
I just cant get enough of harem-romantic-comedies and romance that don't have that draw style were the eyes have other eyes floating in them for a gleam effect.
Oof. I know they're safe choices, but fuck me if Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion aren't really fucking good. Gankutsuou also ranks quite highly (even if the sci-fi isn't as pronounced as it is in other shows).
