Can Hard-Work beats Talent?

I think hard-work can't beat talent if the talent is a pure talent.

It's an uphill battle mate but, pure hard work (with a little cunning and luck) can beat raw talent.

I play Magic:the gathering and one of my friends is a "control" player. All day, every day he plays control. He has a talent for it, while I'm not as good as he is I make up for it by hard work to give me a fighting chance. I learn more about the nooks and crannies of the rules, learning the weakness to whatever he plays, etc. This may be an over simplified example but, I think it does the job.

I play magic too. And I have talent. Pure talent of course.

I'm lazy too, but not much of my Hard-Work friends that can surpass me  . Just some of them. The one that can surpass me also have a little talent though.

EDIT : Shit! I'm sleepy and choose "Yes" . I want to choose "No" ~~

Hard question, since most Talents have to train real hard themselves to become good at the thing they got talent for.

You can say that they're quite even when it comes to accomplishments, Though the talent got the edge of having it a litle bit easier to learn the ''thing' than the hard worker.

I made this topic after reading Eyeshield 21.

And looking at the fate of Kongou brothers.

Hard work can beat talent but it's a difficult fight. My friend has a talent for swimming so he was the top swimmer for my high school. I had to watch him swim the events that I was best at and doing that took a long time. It almost took me 2 years before I can finally beat him at 100 backstroke and I only beat him by about 3 one hundredth of a second. It's not impossible to accomplish but it requires a lot of determination and sacrifice.

I'd rather have talent then do hard-work, cause I'm lazy like that.

But.. you know, it is sad to become a talented one.

I'm a talented one. I can understand something difficult in short time.

I have tall body for an Indonesian, I have strong power, the bad one just I don't have stamina.

But... when I'm still in elementary school, nobody wants to become my friend.

They're afraid to me.

Am I getting this right? No one wants to be your friend because...you're talented?

Shouldn't it be the other way around

Wasn't this in Naruto? -_-

Yeah, I have become mad once. And I almost destroy all chair and desk in my class.

If someone is very talented but doesn't work, they almost always get beat out by someone who might not be as talented but works their ass off. Pro sports is a good example. In the NBA, players like Kwame Brown or Stephon Marbury are incredibly talented physically, but they didn't want to work, and instead fought with coaches, skipped practice, whined, etc, and now they are secondary players who come off the bench. Most teams would rather have Kurt Rambis or Shane Battier than Kwame Brown, and Stephon Marbury ended up with a veteran minimum contract after being released by the Knicks.

The only this is that when someone who is super talented decides to work hard, then not having enough talent can be a gap. I could practice basketball all I want and never be as good as LeBron James. I just don't have the physical build and athleticism that he has, and unlike Kwame Brown, LeBron has worked hard at building the basketball skills too, so others can't easily surpass him there because he sits around on his ass.

I play MTG as well, have for many years now. We really were separated at birth. On another note, you should play a hardcore aggressive deck perhaps with some burn to see if you can't just kill him too fast. Although, power level of cards people play and own can be an obstacle too. I used to play with this one guy who basically played the most degenerate combo decks from the history of MTG and I didn't win a lot of games. He played things like Flash, Sol Ring, Grim Monolith, Tolarian Academy, Arcbound Ravager and Disciple of the Vault, etc. Most of my decks simply didn't contain enough of the older powerful cards(Force of Will would have been a big help) to be competitive.

you either have talent, or you do not. one cannot simply become talented in something. all one can do is be more hard working in an area.

the idea is, we have 1 people. lets label them A & B.

A is talented but not as hard working as B.
B is not at all talented but is more hardworking that A.

being talented in an area means that the person is able to pick up things in the particular area really fast if he/she tries.

now, both A & B can always try to work harder. if they both do, think of this in the form of a graph whereby B's growth is linear & directly proportionate. but, for A's case, A's growth would be exponential. ultimately, A will surpass B.

at the end of the day, drive is what thats most important. without a reason, both sides would not be hardworking.

thats my opinion XD

I admit that beating a talented guy is hard. I play tennis, and I'm just your ordinary "Jack-of-All-Trades" who specializes in spins and feints, and my talented friend is what you called talented. His power, technique and speed is always a couple of levels above me. I can only beat him with a couple of tricks and bluffs, since trying to counter power with power will surely make me tired.

And I play Yu-Gi-Oh, with a friend whose head contains a computer and current champion in his university. If he's really motivated to win, I won't even get a chance to reduce his life points, since all of my attack seem to get countered in a perfect timing. I can only beat him when he lessens his guard

Point is Talent isn't everything

But If You're facing a talented, hard working guy, then you're screwed...

^This is I agree

Talent sure make you learn and do some things easier than some people...

but talent not determine anything, Hard-work sure can beat it

real life example: I am smart, but lazy type guy so my grade is always intermediate; my friends is not genius type, but he always study hard, in the end he surpass me(he starts from bottom on my class and come on top later).

anime&manga examples: Law of Ueki, where Ueki lost nearly all his talents and work hard to cover it.
Naruto, it's obvious.
Top-o-narae Gunbuster, Noriko is one of good examples.

Seriously, think if you have pure talent and other ppl with no talent can't beat you is the biggest mistake; That will remark your downfall.
Hard-work is the key here, even people with pure talent need to work so he/she can always top the others.

talent = laziness and hardwork = talent HOWEVER hardwork + talent = fame... it's all on the person.
