Do you buy chapters?

When Fakku first started doing the subscription model I was a little bummed out to have to start paying monthly to continue to access what I had for free before. But it didn’t take long to realize that the increase in quality was worth it. Mainly the fact that there was no more censorship. It was a great move, if for no other reason than legal reasons. But then I started seeing chapters that I couldn’t access unless I purchased them. That stung a bit. I’m paying $12 a month, that’s more than a Netflix or Hulu subscription, and I don’t even get all the content. What if you were browsing Netflix and suddenly come across something you want to watch but it says you need to purchase it first even though you have an active subscription? So I’m just curious if anyone actually does buy chapters. I’m seeing 30 page chapters for $5-$6. That seems insane to me. Who has that kind of disposable income to be dropping that much money on individual chapters? Maybe a dollar I could see, but this just seems greedy to ask of people that already pay a subscription fee. Now sure, you might just see it as bonus content. Like this content wouldn’t normally be available with your subscription service anyway. Maybe I can understand that. But at the very least we should have an option to hide those chapters from appearing while browsing. It seems scumy to flash this attractive looking cover in front of me while I’m browsing new chapters only to see the “Purchase” tag in the top right corner. I should be able to hide those chapters because they are practically ads trying to get me to buy something. And again, I pay for this, I shouldn’t be seeing what is essentially ads.

Let's examine the different manga products available on FAKKU.

1. Subscription Service

The subscription service is actually a bundle of different benefits. Subscribers gain access to the entire library of magazine released manga. We're talking about 2000+ chapters from eight different magazines. I've marked the ones that are not released monthly.

1. Comic Kairakuten
2. Comic X-Eros
3. Comic Kairakuten BEAST
4. Comic Shitsurakuten
5. Girls forM *
6. Comic Bavel
7. Comic Europa *
8. Comic Koh *

So if we're only talking about monthly releases you're paying just over $2 per magazine per month. I think that's pretty good, considering one magazine issue in Japan goes for anywhere between 400円 - 1000円. I know you don't get to download them and we don't have physical copies. Instead we're allowed to all the previously released content. It's a trade-off, and it can't truly be considered equivalent. But I'd still call that a good deal.

But FAKKU is expanding. We are now getting access to anime with the subscription as well. It's still a small library but it should steadily grow. In addition to that, subscribers are also granted 10% off games. Not a huge benefit, but it is a nice perk.

2. Books

Books are completely separate from the subscription. The books are significantly more expensive than their Japanese counterparts (for good reason) but they're made very well. Books often feature content that was already in the subscription. Which is not to say that they are equivalent. Both the author and the FAKKU team always go back and polish chapters up for a book release. I talked a bit more about this overlap here. I think the main incentive to purchase books is owning the physical copy. You do get digital downloads for any book purchases, as long as it was on the FAKKU store. Purchasing a book from any other outlet such as Amazon does not come with a digital copy.

3. Doujinshi

Since this often gets confused I'll briefly explain this term. Doujinshi are works, often manga, that are independently published. Therefore there isn't a label like Wanimagazine or Core Magazine on the doujin. Doujins are manga that are almost exclusively released in very limited prints at conventions. Doujins are most often sold for the purpose of generating supplemental income for artists. FAKKU works with artists to bring them to the Western market after the fact. I believe they get a direct cut from every sale. So selling them separate from the subscription is akin to the practice in Japan. They make additional income for artists. Doujinshi purchases do allow digital downloads. Some doujinshi are sold in print, mainly at Anime Expo as a special for AX attendees. Remaining copies are very limited and are sold on the web store.

With that said, FAKKU does add doujinshi to the subscription library. After about three weeks past release, subscribers are permitted to read (most) doujinshi that was published by FAKKU. Do note that there are two other publishers sharing the FAKKU store, namely ENSHODO and 2D Market. These companies aren't related to FAKKU otherwise and their content will not be available as part of the subscription.

So the front page features all of this content as you already know. That is for good reason. It allows everyone to get fair exposure to FAKKU's audience. With that said, if you are 100% sure you do not want to see any other products while browsing manga, then you can take advantage of the Subscription tag. This tag exclusively shows subscription content, as its name implies.

You're also expecting a lot from a new service since netflix library is a different then a hentai or manga sub service. Netflix has generally all the movies/tv/specials from 1980's and a most of the biggest hits before that. (even though noting is ever good on the streams anyways) Any wani chapter from the first three magazine starting from 2016 is the starting with a sprinkle of some older stuff but 10*12*3 then 2017 to now add maybe 20 more a month. Let's face it netflix probably add 200 different content a day. You can't really compare fakku with nexflix. Even if we had every hentai magazine in japan.... that maybe 200 chapters a month with a few more every few months.

Note that while the physical editions do indeed cost around ~2x the price of the Japanese ones, the digital copies are around the same price (there's barely any price difference in Japan between physical and digital). Now considering that you get the digital version for free when buying a book direct from Fakku, you basically get the same value (well, more, since it's uncensored, in a language you can understand, and the digital is way better quality than what you'd get out of Japan while also being DRM-free) for the same price that'd get you the physical + digital in Japanese. So while Fakku's physical releases cost nominally more, I'd say you definitely get comparable (if not more) value for your money compared to buying Japanese physical copies.

I probably never would.

I can get bundles of non-sex comics online for the same price as one chapter of something from here.

Now if they started having bundles or sales, then yeah, it'd definitely be worth it.

yeah but we should consider another point of view on business practice too if you bring this up
for example case
lets say we are looking for coffee at starbuck for $5, but they gave us 1 cup of coffee and 1 cup of tea and the tea cup are twice than the coffee we also get alot of extra that could be 10 times from what we pay for, and the total price is $10.
will you pay for it if you just really need the coffee? the answer for me is no, the thing that are not on my list they shouldnt considered as worth to pay for sometimes not even worth to take even if they are free, but just like we know everyone has their point of view it just need to understand more to each other right?

oh btw sorry for oot, it would be great if nutaku could get more of payment processor for user from oversea, alot of country quite strict on their debit card and also credit card might be hard to get for that such a country, perhaps just like nut** they have a crypto payment, or ohter porn related site that now support for paypal.
paypal should be a great one, any (most of it) debit card should work if paying with paypal, or at least for case.

We had paypal. They (paypal) said nope because they have a no adult items in their terms. I use to buy from mandarake with my account but they won;t use paypal since no adult items can be use on paypal. Amazon use to use them, now nope because they have dildos and pron. IF a site which let's you can use your paypal for adult uses they're doing on the dl and paypal will pwned then soon. We also had a bitcoin transaction option before they said no more porn on it. Jacob and the store is still working with other crypto sites for a payment company. Also prepaid debt cards work and i use them in many nations. asian west and east europe and the prison colonies of straya

I buy when I like the author, style or content. Some of the Enshodo, I wish I bought before it got locked away.

I had bad experiences losing files due to computer problems. For this reason, I prefer to have physical copies of things I paid for, whether they be books, movies (as DVDs and Blu-ray discs), music (as CDs), and video games (as cartridges and CD-ROMs). That means I will not buy chapters, as they are digital downloads I will lose the moment something goes wrong with my computer.

Sure, there are a lot of gems here

I haven't bought any yet, but I probably will at some point.

Aside from the physical books which seem maybe a little bit high, the prices here seem pretty reasonable. The doujins seem like they cost pretty much the same as buying the physical Japanese versions (new copies at least). I do wish the doujins here were available physically, but I understand that it would be expensive.

I find it quite interesting looking back at the OP from two years ago and seeing how times have changed. The world is now full of more and more micro subscriptions. As much as I dont like buying chapters, every now and again I do. Though it isnt my only form of entertainment to begin with so I'm probably a decent example of the average user. There are absolute gems out there and finding and supporting an artist you really like is a positive in all regards IMO.

some of the more popular high quality artists like key i reckon are worth a purchase. niche artists too.
