As a general rule, governments dont make laws without a good reason to make them.

I mean, it costs money and manpower to enforce/educate people about laws. They dont make them for the sole purpose of inconveniencing you. I agree that many laws seem stupid, but they exist for a reason, that's just about that.

There are few statements on earth I could disagree more with.
While I regard the law as a useful and highly necessary institution, an enormous slew of laws, perhaps even the majority of modern legal buildings, isn't worth the paper it was decreed on.

what are some of the laws in your country that you just can't stand or have given you a lot of trouble for no good reason?

I basically abhor any law that involves a victim-less crime, violates civil liberties, is arbitrary, legislates taste, or was tailor-made for only one person or tiny special interest group.

PS: In college, a co-student of mine was fined $300 for standing on the sidewalk, because the sidewalk is not a sidestand.

In a certain country....anyone can be arrested without a warrant for a minimum of 60 days if a certain minister deems him/her dangerous to the country/disrupting the public order...

Many people are in jail because of that law, even blog writers.

I sense a power-abuse weapon...

Japan?

The only laws in America that i totally disagree with is the ban on prostitution and weed

Prostitution- Making it illegal has made it into a far more exploitative industry than it needs to be. With legalization would come regulation, the prostitute would be the one deciding how long they work, what they'll do, etc. instead of some exploiter tricking or forcing someone into it. And pornography is basically prostitution, only they do it on video.

Weed- It is nowhere near as bad as Cigarettes or alcohol, yet it remains illegal. Makes no sense to me.

A lot of laws in this topic are archaic holdovers from long ago who no-one bothered to change, and aren't enforced in the least, so...

Well I was dumb and only wanted to visit because I thought it was beautiful, but I studied up a little bit of the culture and local laws/customs and decided I didn't really want to visit after all. ^_^;;

Dunno about beautiful, but this country is too damn hot, that's for sure. And now I'm wondering which culture and local laws you studied that made you don't wanna visit...

Well one thing that kind of bugged me was even though the Malaysian constitution entitles religious freedom, things I read always made it sound like you should err on being hush-hush if you weren't Muslim.

I know it is distasteful and ignorant of me, but being in the U.S. I admit I do have a fair bias towards Muslims. I mean I have a friend who is Muslim, and I'm fine with him, but sometimes I just can't get the U.S. bias out of my head. >.<

Oh well, that's the way it is in Malaysia. The muslims think they're superior, but they know they're not so they rigged the law of the country so that they have an edge against others...

To me religious freedom in Malaysia is total bullshit. The obvious siding with islam make the whole freedom thing a total hypocrisy. Not to mention atheism is like an unspoken ultimate taboo here...

Yeah, I try to keep it to myself, but sometimes I'm an extremely outspoken Atheist. Don't want to uh get myself in trouble. XD

Of course we want no troubles but...sometimes it's just hard to contain our itch to speak out, right? Especially when they start blabbing about their...uh, mysticism.

As for me...I'm desperately trying to hide my atheism...my family is a very religious one, so I'm very sure should they find out they will deal with it the good ol' islamic way...^_^

Oh my, that has to be quite a challenge.

Yeah, a challenge to protect dear life~~

Oh my we're derailing the thread here. Hmm...lemme see...another damn unfair law of my country....

How about a law that specifies whoever that gonna be prime minister must be malay, and muslim? We create law to serve justice...and I honestly can't see this law doing that...

In Kentucky, where I live, it is illegal to be naked in your own home, without a fucking license to be naked. Seriously, what the hell? A license to be naked?

How do you take a bath then? with a swimsuit!? EDIT: Im halfway agnostic, so all religous based laws kind of get to me. Also one in I think.....I dont remember...*P But if you date a woman there and dont marry her a male in that family has the right to kill you to preserve her honor or something. Never gonna go there for a one night stand! I ll remember later and come edit.
