is death really the end?

I do believe I explained several times throughout the process of that topic that the form of a dichotomy takes the form of either X, or not X. And not X can include maybe X.

And then I demonstrated that whether or not god exists is something you either believe...or don't believe. And disbelieving doesn't at all necessarily entail believing that the claim is in actuality WRONG. Not belief does not equal belief not.

Also, in that topic you actually made the claim that this ISN'T a dichotomy because ,and I'm quoting you here, "I believe there are always shades of gray. Nothing is this black and white."

So in essence, it's not that I was arguing that belief in god has to be a dichotomy because otherwise there are none, it's that you were asserting that indeed there is no such thing as one.

Look, you've gone full circle. I'm kind of sad for you, and a lot of people who frequent SD recognize your problem, even if you yourself don't.
Your last two sentences are kind of interesting. Here, you claim to understand yet also demonstrate that you do not. I'd love to break it down and explain it to you but I have done that several times with no success. All I can hope is that you [b]very carefully[/i] read what you wrote, and see where you've made your logical disconnect.

Once you find it, you'll also understand why we can't get along.

I've been thinking a lot about what happens after death and... it kind of scares the hell out of me. What if its over after death I mean I like the idea of reincarnation and/or heaven but what if when you die you slip into darkness forever what if when you die you just stop and you rot in the ground. Tell me what you think I don't care if you are religious or an atheist just say what you think because I really want to know.

To me, it means the end. What happens at the end of the road if you cant go backwards? Nothing, you just sit there in your vehicle and watch the wall. I am an Atheist currently, and i believe everything has a creator average conversation with a Christian. Me: Who created God? Christians: I dunno'. Me: *facepalm*

I'm not trying to hate Christianity or any other religions, I am just hating their "Absolute" belief in something they have never questioned.

Well, it is inevitable.
Based on your belief, it might be.

Me?
I believe in reincarnation and strong willed.

>Meaning if I wanted it badly enough, I could get reborn in a manga.

Do you think it's at all possible you're actually the one that's wrong on this?

Logically, no.

I highly doubt you've actually sat back and seriously tried to logically vet your argument here.

hmm....death? One hell of a long nap? Sound boring to me!

In my opinion, I do think Death is the end. However, because we can't just die and come back to tell about how death was, how is anyone to know that there isn't something more once our bodies die?

Actually I have...I even did in the topic. Your response to me doing that was, "I reject this, because there's always shades of grey."

Here, I'll do it again.

A true dichotomy takes the form of X, or not X

One can either believe in god, or not believe in god.

Not believing in god doesn't necessarily include believing that god doesn't exist.

To draw an analogy, it's like eating a cake. IF I place a cake in front of you...you can either eat cake...or not eat cake...but not eating the cake doesn't have to include pushing the cake away.

Look, if you really want to debate this effectively, find me in IRC or message me on Skype (foogoomee), and I'll try to elucidate for you. You can't use "believe in god" and "believe in existence of god" interchangeably, btw.

This is one question we will never know until we truly meet our ends (shame if we die and it is the end, we will never know...). This topic is highly influenced by a person's attitude to religion. Nevertheless, I think it is safe to assume and live life with the presumption that death is truly the end. ;_;

Sleeping is a mild form of death that is repeated for the rest of your life training your body for the real thing.

This question can never be answered until the day that we die.

Religious beliefs believe that their souls are taken to a higher place or lower depending on who they are or what they have done.

Atheists believe they will just die and that's it.

We will never know how it will turn out, but I will tell you this, we can talk about it in case we DO land somewhere else after death.

Its quite complex , As far as i read in science about parallel universes , Life will still continue , even you will still be alive in some other universe , but The you in that universe will not be the you in this universe , Thats pretty much it ....
So Death is more or less the end for your own consciousness but your body will still exist According Quamtum physics -_- or according to parallel universe theory or string theories

None of those ideas have been proven or predict anything that we can confirm.

Its the best so far , The best theory any one can come up with till now , You now light behaves as a particle as well as a wave , thus Particles itself or sub particles themselves behave like a wave as well as a particle , Waves unlike particles can exist at many places at once , Just like the light from the sun , Thus particles itself and our own make up of the body can behave both like a wave as well as a particle , Our sub atomic particles can exist at many places at once .
Therefore our bodies must exist at more places than once , Thats how people actually came up with an Idea of multi verses , And multi verse also define the expanding universe in the best possible manner .
At this moment most of the scientist would believe in multi verse theories than anything else since its the most legit so far .
We will know more as the research on how our universe came into existence keeps being researched at CERN

Please try a different language, because your English is absolutely atrocious; I'm well familiar with Physics and Quantum Mechanics but I barely managed to salvage any sort of coherent thought out of that grammatical wreckage.

Anyways, for what you have said, it's all the same; The cessation of the conscious mind- any sense of self-awareness whatsoever- is equivalent to absolute death.

You no longer exist in any way that matters, because you will not be aware of it. Doesn't matter if your sub-atomic particles or monofilaments or quarks or anything else still exist- because your mind won't.

So until we can find some way to transport consciousness outside of the body and into a medium that has an amount of permanence- Death is still something that we all (rightly so) fear and dread.

The body means nothing. Let the damn thing rot.

My mind is what I hold most precious.

I said pretty much the same thing , also I don't think my english is that bad , I did score almost an 8 band on IELTS ( International english language testing System ) about 4 years back .
I am not a physics student and about Quamtum mechanics, its just what i have read about it at many places .
Question is , Do memories actually exist in physical form or do memories actually have weight ?
I do not know if Electricity or or consciousness has any weight , I have no idea about such concepts .

Death scares me because of the unknown of what happens afterwards, people believe in different heavens and hells, some see hell as the true paradise and then there are some who think they will be resurrected into a new life and some believe it's not but darkness when you are gone...the insecurity of what will be makes me nervous
0
Nerves break down, sensation dies, and we can only hope against logic that something grows to replace it, that somehow we live on someway.
0
To me it doesn't really matter that much to be honest...
If there is an afterlife then I'm certanly looking forward to it and if there isn't then it's just another good reason to live the life I have to the fullest!

Ah death...it is somewhat alluring yet frightening to me. Whatever we may dream about none of us can prove.

I wish to strongly believe in a form of reincarnation but perhaps in another realm or world out there. The body may shut down and rot, but some form or essence I believe resides in us all.

Change is something that is important. So I kinda don't feel that there is a heaven or hell, rather perhaps another lifestyle that will be heaven or hell.

Who knows what will happen? I suggest we all live our current life stories how we wish till the final chapter.

Yep, its the end, of life.

To me, death is the key to the world of eternity. It just means letting yourself go from this world.

Based on my religion:
When one dies, he is to be stayed in his grave but his grave will become a place based on his deeds until judgement.

I don't think anything ever dies really, I believe it is just letting your body go, since in my belief that we are the soul and our body is the shell.

I wish it were like this:
When we die we get to go to a place where true freedom is and it is beautiful and everything is nothing like earth, it is a place really unique.

We haven't died yet so we can't even guess what the fuck is. Waiting for us
