Well I am not COMPLETELY sure if am putting this in the right thread but eh, no pain no gain...I think that fits nicely...yes.

Hello everybody, me again and I really noticed something at work today, politics is boring...AS HELL :D. Am working for my lawyer as a personal secretary (yes I thought all secretary were some mysterious sexy women at first too.) and you see his wife came back from London today. She and my boss don't get along all too well....or...at all really. So today, only to add more on the migraine I was having from all the work, they decide to have a conversation about who their voting for..I think you see where this is going. They had a big and more importantly LOUD argument on who to vote for. The wife saying that Obama can get the job done and done well unlike McCain who apparently is too old to be working on such a stressful job. However, my boss decide that Obama was too young and him being black was something that the other country's wouldn't approve of. Well, now am feeling pain and awkwardness but if that is not bad enough, they then had to ask ME for MY opinion! Well am a blunt person so I just said truthfully. "I..don't really care". Well that apparently wasn't the right answer, I then got LITERALLY bitched out by a 54 year old couple. -Sigh- Well to make a long story short, the noose didn't fit my neck....Oh yeah and I was going to ask you guys, what DO YOU think of politics and people nowadays? Is politics as important as it use to be? I would love you hear your opinion guys :D.
Mine? I really can't care less anymore.

I live in Canada and I support the Liberal party mostly because I hate the Conservatives. Yes, I believe politics is one of the most important things in the current world. I really hate it when kids nowadays say they don't care and won't vote for anyone because they don't know anything about the candidates or their goals. Waste of a vote if you ask me.

This is why I wish they make politics a compulsory credit in High School. At least teach the students the basis of the government and the different ideals of each party.

You didn't have to do politics in school? We had to do some crap about citizenship and politics that was completely irrelevant to anything that was going on.

We did a course called Civics that was mandatory but it was basically simple stuff. The course basically teach me about Federal and civil laws and an introduction to government systems. It also show me the role of a citizens in the government.

The real politics course was optional.

I have to say I do believe you have a good opinion and you brought great reasons behind it, but am just going to have say I really don't see where this changes anything. For one, most kids don't go beyond high school so the class that you recommenced for high school kids wouldn't go that far as to changing life as we know it. I mean lets face it, most kids nowadays only go to school because they have too, not because they want to learn about anything. However, I do think it would be a good idea but then again I haven't seen a good idea when it comes to schools in quite the while. Also, I will vote for someone but not because I think my vote is actually going to affect anything but because I believe as a person born in the U.S.A, one of the least things I can do is vote. Personally am voting for Obama, but that's not the point.

Also, its not that I don't know their goals, I know them damn well enough with the infomercials being forced down my throat on T.V. I just think that both of their goals are superficial up to this point. I mean with the hole that Bush put us in, I think its going to have to take more then 4-8 years to get us out. Case in point - One wants to waste lives, the other one wants to waste money, either way, no one truly wins.

However, like I said earlier, you had very good points. You know a lot more then I do on this subject I will admit.

Well, you don't have to vote for Obama or McCain if you don't want to to. There's probably an independent party out there that holds your same ideals. They may have 0% chance of winning even if you vote for them, but at least you voted for what you believe in.

And yes, the school system seriously needs a revamp is some parts.

True, thanks actually. I mean, better to vote for something I believe and losing then voting for whatever and losing. The person I usually vote for never really wins .

Life is more important than money, but when you ask the people they'll care more about the fact that money is being wasted because it's not their life that's being wasted.

in America, voting got really dumbed down because people bring "cheat sheets" to the polls where it has each candidate and what they're for and what they're against. Who cares as long as they have experience or age? As long as they're adamant with their beliefs/values/goals and the person you are voting for share the same ideas. Because, in the end, isn't that what democracy is? Voting for someone with similar goals as the leader of your group/country?

Americans will never have a vote or matter in the electoral process til we wake up abolish the electoral college.

Seriously. No one even know what that is or what they do anymore. Also, I bet a few people think it's a real college.

I agree totally but when it comes right down too it, your right again, people care more about how much is in their wallet then the lives being wasted. Hey what can ya do, its a sin called greed and its used everyday by a large majority of people. Not that I haven't been caught doing that though. However I much rather a living being of my buck.

Not to bump my thread or anything but after reading all this,I actually questioned this. I saw this documentary, a good while back, about their being foul play in the voting process, ya know, that votes don't really count and that the government is corrupted and all this nonsense. Now of course they never really found ANYTHING but still.... with all that's happened, I have some doubt that this voting thing is really "by the people". Of course, that's probably me being paranoid or something.

What needs to change.

When it started it was a good idea, but times change.

Ah, I see, I learn more and more by the hour I presume, thank you. Also, I do agree, things change and time calls for a new rule I suppose eh?

Assuming the process in America does work, it then becomes about not who you like, but who you hate the least. And I hate them both very much, though their desperation entertains me. At the end of the day, I support the war and from I can see neither of them do, which bothers me. Additionally, one of them (I forget which) wants to ban/limit video game consumption in the states, which I do not agree with.

They both suck. Politics in America sucks, and unfortunately that won't change on its own any time soon.
