Media censoring?

Well here I go with one of my weird polls and discussions. After talking about the American politics in the "americans" thread and so many people blaming the media and having different opinions, I thought it might deserve an own tread.

I tried to make the poll as variable as possible so everyone should have something that he can associate with.

As for my opinion, certain elements like MTV should be under stricter censoring due to the large amount of kids / youth watching it and the influence it spreads, if they like it or not. Telling a 14 year old in puberty that someone survived god knows how many gunfights etc and is now famous is not the best way to describe the way someone should grow up.

I would have to agree with censoring mtv and stuff like that more since kids idolize them and there not good influences.

nothing should be censored...ever...period. corrupt youth...so what, they can handle it, i mean, with the internet nowadays they probably all have seen worse stuff.

I find censorship offensive. I really can't stand people that blame the media just because their kid learned what's the difference between males and females.

That is a different thing. Kids can find that out on CNN, N24 or whatever you wanna call them. I don't mind MTV showing suggestive music videos etc. What I do mind though is if the media makes people that were involved in crimes etc out to be heroes.

Like who? I seriously can't name a criminal that was turned into a hero.

well, it's true that violence or suggestive themes might give off a bad influence on the kids, but isn't it also a parent's responsibility to tell him/her what's right and wrong in the first place? and what's to watch and what's to avoid? of course, i'm not blamin it all on the parents either(some, actually, a lot have hard times taking care of kids), the media should be aware of the certain things that're inappropriate to show to the minors and expect the audiences to be also aware of the fact as well, a lot of shows on tv have "viewers discretion is advised" up front which is quite helpful, but mostly it's up to parents whether they are reminded of the certain things that their kids are getting in touch with.

Fuck censoring. If a kid can't handle what they're seeing, they should turn it the fuck off. People who are dumb enough to go out and copy what they see on TV that can get them into trouble are stupid and deserve whatever happens. The only people who are so easily influenced by the media are children whose minds haven't reached a level of maturity where they can think for themselves and people who are just fucking dumb. I'll admit that I've fallen victim to advertisements before, who hasn't, but the fact of the matter is that semi-intelligent people have enough common sense to not do shit that might end up with them getting hurt, killed, arrested, or result in other negative consequences.

The only time anything should be censored is when its for comedic purposes.

^ That, in a nutshell.

QFT!

Did anyone else hear about the kids that buried their friend in a sandbox for a prolonged period of time so that he could become a sand ninja? Parents should have been watching.

And bleeps make everything funny

I don't believe that TV should be censored. However, a warning should be given at the start of programs that people may find offensive or disturbing. It should not be up to the TV broadcasting networks to censors content from under aged viewers - that is a parents job. Also, we have a rating system to guide people. Extra point: If people pay for their TV service, why should their money be going to censoring something from others view?
