New number???

So.....I just recently heard some scientist discovered a new number between 3 and 4 called "glorf". does this idea seem idiotic to any of you?
It does to me. Thoughts?

Yes it does, everyone knows the number between 2 and 3 is red. No really most of the time scientist need to STFU.

Sounds like the German Torf which is a form of very good earth that many apple plantages use...
Randomness aside, I think it is pretty stupid. The only way I see it happening with a 0.01% chance is incase it is a count like 3, period 342.

If that's true, then things are about to get pretty complicated or at least that's how I feel. Why add a number between three and four?

The only reason I can come up with for a number to be added between... is so that it supports some theory that won't make sense without "Glorf"'s existence.

Its definitely one of the most idiotic things I've heard. You can't just "discover" new numbers. They're abstract, and while anyone can claim to have discovered one, they'll probably be called an idiot, branded a witch and burned at the stake(that was a sarcastic lol), or ostracized for a number of reasons. A new number would literally cause the world to collapse. Its not as bad as dividing by zero, but every part of the civilized world uses the same set of numerical values. Not only would all economic systems collapse, but anything based upon mathematical functions would need to be reworked. If things were able to be resolved after the chaos, it would plant the seed of doubt regarding the whole numerical system because if there's something between 3 and 4, then there could be something between any other numbers.

The only numbers between 3 and 4 would be 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, etc. or even 3.01, or 3.001. blah blah...

My guess on the whole thing is that most likely some scientist found out something like PI for an equation and a journalist got it "into the wrong throat" as you would directly translate it from german into english (reffering to get something into the airpipe instead of the pipe designated for food incase anyone wondered).

I also though of that. Did you know the angle of the pyramids in Egypt is Pi. Fucked up uh?

Damn, those Egyptians really knew their math. There's so many mysteries about those pyramids that it's a shame we'll probably never know the answer to most (or all ) of them.
