I think rep. is just for fun and just to give something to somebody who done good thing to you. Rep. isn't important but its good thing. Still I'm at 0 rep. but who cares :roll:
Well, on some and by some i mean most, rep is a big factor. Get high enough rep and you become a mod (BTW FAKKU needs more mods). Also access to some exclusive content. It's just a way of saying thanks for helping the community heres a reward.
OMG my first rep. now I do care. Oh animeholic1 I love you :D It feels good to get first rep ^^
And Jacob maybe there is posibility to show you what gived you rep not what dereped you? Cuz its just interesting to know...

{ Before anyone goes all like spaztastic on me with "omfg wut rite du u haf 2 talk u haz n0 rep!" I, like many others, have been on forums other than this where they also had rep systems. }

The only real use that rep has atm is that when someone is new to the forum, they have more respect for someone with higher rep. Higher rep is a way to tell people who aren't familiar with the forum "What I say has value, heed my words," since people usually give rep to people who say smart things. The only other thing to go by as to who's worth your respect when you're new to a forum is post count, but using that as a method to measure the worth of someone's words is nothing short of retarded. (Admittedly using rep as a way to put value on a guy's words is also pretty stupid, but it's still what users do when they're new.)

What do I personally think about rep? (That was the original question, after all.) I believe it does have some value. If nothing else, it's a way to reward someone when you have no other way. When you receive plus rep, it means someone actually cares about what you're saying. You said or did something of value, otherwise whoever repped you wouldn't have wasted his precious once-per-day rep on you. (Theoretically at least.) Receiving plus rep is an encouragement to keep doing what you're doing. I mean, look at Klown, his massive rep tells us that some people obviously like that he uploads games and helps out with the problems they're having. It's a way of showing gratitude without having to say anything. I don't know about others, but a lot of times I don't feel like posting just to say "Thanks" or "I really appreciate what you do for this forum. It makes coming here worth it" (I mean, seriously, wouldn't it be weird if someone said the second phrase to anyone else?) so instead I plus rep them if I can. On the other hand, a neg rep is like saying "gtfo" for whatever reason. It might have more weight to it than a pos rep (since it's not done as commonly) but in the end it still means the same (but opposite) thing as a plus rep, so I don't think it should be removed. So, do I care about rep? Yeah, it means people I've never met before care about what I'm saying and what I'm doing somewhere; but all in all, besides it's symbolism, it is still just a number.

Since Raze mentioned that he would listen to suggestions to make rep mean something, one thing that's sometimes done is to make how much you rep others depend on how much rep you have yourself. So, you could either have some script to calculate how often you can rep (ie user.t = 24 - sqrt(user.rep); where t = time in hours of rep interval) or have something more simple like

[code:1]if(user.rep<20) then t=24;
else if (20 =< user.rep < 50) then t = 18;
else if (50 =< user.rep < 200) then t = 12;
else t=8;[/code:1]

Of course both codes are just samples made up on the spot, so you might want to change around the values or equation. The point of rewarding people with high rep by allowing them to rep more is that people are reward for something that doesn't have a concrete value with something that doesn't have a concrete value, so people really shouldn't have all that much reason to complain. They still will, but they shouldn't.

There was some other stuff I wanted to mention, but eventually you just have to say to yourself, "Self," you have to say, "You've written quite enough for one post. People shan't read if it's too long."

Yah, FAKKU has it's own unique way of handling things thats for sure. Not that thats a bad thing. BTW The mods that are for a certain area of the forum say tsujoi, are they limited to only that area? I ask this cause some parts of the forum go under modded. There's misplaced topics that go days and even weeks without being locked and or modded. Heres a example thats been there for almost a week i believe www.fakku.net/viewtopic.php?t=11714 I That tells me a mod hasn't even gone into that section in that amount of time.

Also don't take this wrong and think i'm dissing the mods there great. All of them are good guys from what i've seen and follow the rules and regulations of the forum carefully.

I believe the above-mentioned thread has already been locked. However, looking through its replies, I realized that some members did not do much to prevent it from going even further off topic. :D

Linking the repuation with posts - like in 'User got 3 times +repped for this post.' which may be shown at the profile preview to the left, you'd know why someone repped you (Or someone else.) without resulting in childish rep wars. It'd also be easier to keep watch on abuse - if you're just writing some harmless post and getting the shit -repped out of you for that, then there's nothing which should give you worry - and people would be able to give thanks to specific uploads. The same could be done with images from the image section so it's not left out, and you could also have a rep-log which shows you the things for which you have been repped - I believe that would be to the liking of many fakkers.

Since I'm not such a big fan of the reputation system I have touched the reputation buttons like... five times since I'm on FAKKU. I'd rather tell someone face to face that he's great or a fag instead of anonymously pressing some buttons. I've also been -repped several times and I was never able to find a reason other than me stating that I'm voting for a specific girl on a poll or something, so I'm not caring. It'd be different if I'd clearly get -repped while taking part in a profound discussion thread, probably making me reconsider my opinion, but that's not really distinguishable from the earlier mentioned with the current system.

Yah, a mod saw it apparently when I posted it. The topic to begin with was pointless so I decided to have some fun with it before it was locked XD Tho my inside joke did somehow almost manage to become a religious debate O_o

I think that's a good idea.

I've seen that technique used in mangahelpers(Scanlation Site) where people post raws/translations/cleans and people thank them for it.

I'm pretty sure it'll work just fine with rep.

My thoughts on rep....

Same as what people think of me.

Like the same reason you don't go outside naked.

The more people rep you, the more you feel like people respect you. It gives you a sense of pride.(or something like that)

I mean come on, who doesn't enjoy getting rep? I'm pretty sure Jacob was pretty happy when he got 100, 200 reps. Same with Klown and Capt Falcon and all the other people with the ridiculously high rep counts.

On the other hand, giving rep is more difficult then receiving. There is so many posts out there that are Rep-Worthy, but you don't know which to choose. Most of the time its more like there is no rep-worthy post so I don't rep at all. There are only 1 or 2 instances when I Neg Repped. I can't remember why or to whom. Most likely because they asked a stupid question or troll'd

Still beating a dead horse eh?

Until gods of FAKKU decide in their divine wisdom that the rep count should account for something other than the size of our E-penis or..E-tits (for the ladies out there) it's just a number.

Sure everybody likes it when their rep goes up. It shows you are doing something that makes the community a little better. Though having it account for something would be nice. A suggestion would be "Get X rep then get something in return" *cough* Fakku Shirt *cough*. Though it would be amusing to have a FAKKU shirt with a line saying "My E-penis is bigger than yours". It's hardly a serious suggestion.

I won't talk about rep log since Raze killed the idea and threw it's corpse into a incinerator (after roughing it up a bit both pre and postmortem). Though this may not be true for others. I wouldn't care who de-repped me as long as I knew why. Which leads me to giving "reasons" when you rep someone. Though with Admin already having access to a pseudo-rep long to prevent abuse kind of ruins that argument. Maybe go with Whitelion's idea of removing -rep but, still the point remains that it's just a number. Also as G-money pointed out even people with negatives can suddenly swing into the positives even though their attitude obviously never warrants a +rep. Which is evidence that even some people who "don't care" actually do care about their rep.

If I could make any serious suggestion about the actual function of the site I would humbly request that people with X-rep can have custom titles again.

@illumi: I think it's harder receiving rep than giving it out. I find that lately I'm giving out way too much rep, but more rep around doesn't hurt, does it? (Then again, I'm surprised to see some of regular members' rep drop just today...)

@Fiery_penguin_of_doom: Yes, we are beating a dead horse here, and as far as I'm concerned, a rep log is pointless because Raze said so, nor do I see a particular need for it. I liked the picture, poor horse got black eye. I would also support getting X# of rep and get a FAKKU shirt, hehe, that'd be nice, though I think we should be able to change our custom titles after X number of rep, as long as it's not a staff title. The problem with that is because our staff likes to switch titles often and us being to rename titles would create more confusion to new members.

Showing off your E-tits sounds better.

On another note, I clicked the "gods of FAKKU" link and I finally see Raze's face unmosaicked and Nikon's first Avatar! Didn't think that would ever happen, seeing Raze's face unmodified; it's cute.

Well we could go with a set up like

Username
"Rank"
Custom Title
ETC

So it would be

Jacob
Fakku Admin
Lord & Master of FAKKUDOM

That way we can have custom titles but, not have the confusion that you spoke of.

@FPOD: ooh, that would work. I wouldn't mind having that implemented, and that would finally put reps to good use as a privilege for those who have good reputation in FAKKU. If you're going to make a thread on that or PM an admin, I'm behind that with full support.

Seconded, I love the idea of being able to modify titles. I would put, "Saber Fan-Boy" XD. (Bet ya didn't see that coming)

Fifth!
this idea is win.

This idea is also way old. The mods weren't very enthused by it but less adamantly opposed as they were to eliminating negative rep or imposing a rep log. It would be kind of nice but it would just be investing more into a system that generates a lot of inane conflict as it is.

It's always nice to be plus repped. but as you may notice I'm not really rolling in the reps. unfortunately. it's hard to be repped up.
