Stereotypes of blacks

I live in the UK, but I've met less than two dozen black people in my entire life. I can't say I've met a black person I didn't like; and I can say for a fact that at least one girl couldn't swim.

I have a pretty good impression of them.
Living in South East Asia, I've only met a handful and so far they've all been nice and friendly. (○゜ε^○)

Because of the nature of my work, I have been to Namibia nad Nigeria (both in Africa).

My other co workers see them as, well,
(Racist)

Spoiler:
"you can't see them at night, so you should give them a strobe light to see them"
.

But for me, I see them as normal people.

Sometimes, people really do judge a person by his skin color.

Well, I'll make a serious post, so people are less butthurt. Cause clearly people can't tell the difference between saying a funny stereotype and race hating

OT: I don't see them as any different. They are humans, I am human. I make racist jokes to my black and ethnic friends, they don't care at all, they find it funny. I keep making pasta jokes around my itallian friend, he loves it. Honestly, getting butthurt over racism is stupid. Unless it's something major (slave related, telling them to go back to their country, etc) just either ignore it, or laugh. You don't see me giving two shits about the stereotypes of where I am.

Tl;dr: I treat them like normal people, cause they are normal people.

I think it was a matter of you undermining the seriousness of the conversation people are having here with the jokes. There are quite a few people who have been hurt by such jokes taken seriously or used to ridicule.

OT: Ive been procrastinating this thread for its length, I'll read over it at some point in the near future. As for op's question itself. My opinion of "Black people" is fairly equal to my opinion of anyone else. All with the same capacity towards growth and development. Ignoring cultural, social, economical influences, the only difference is simply physical appearances, which, in a broader view can be applied to every individual themselves, never identical to another individual.

The only time physical appearance (alone) comes into question for me is with my uncontrollable physical attraction preferences. I find Asian women, specifically Korean, to be incredibly attractive physically.

I have/had black friends that are not your typical black man/woman. I remember a while back in college this one black dude was cursing this white chick out for no apparent reason, then one of my friends (who is black of course) just gave a disgusted look and said "It's like I'm watching the discovery channel". Even though I died laughing I found it sad that the majority of blacks are well...how stereotypical people see them as. I see everyone equally. I am surprised I'm not racist because there have been times where I would be ask if I had weed on me that I was willing to sell (because I'm Mexican). It does get irritating that some of them act stupid and it's not just blacks it's anybody. Anyone can be an ass to you whether you have the same skin or not. So yeah there's my two cents.

It's not about color, it's about character.

Jim Crow is around us even today.
I love anime and Japanese music. But I want to know what it is to be German.
My last name is Hedgepeth (my mother's name) which is of German origin, my father (last name White) is a of slave decent and my mother is light enough to pass off as Hispanic though I turned out to have my father's tone.
Now me, I recently had twins and they have their father's (who is Puerto Rican) tone.
But the issue of stereotypes, you couldn't talk to me without seeing my face to know my race. Simply because i "Talk white". Going to a predominately Black and Hispanic school in New Jersey was rough for me, and just stepping off the plane from Fairbanks, Alaska DID NOT MAKE MY LIFE ANY EASIER.
Now a persistent stereotype that someone possibly mentioned and possibly debunked was the sickening fixation to clothes endorsed by celeberties or that just cost more. I look at those clothes and say "one bad wash...".
On the hand of the media: referring back to Jim Crow, the media makes everyone believe anything from Black to White, Jewish to German.
By the way, I FUCKING ADORE YU-GI-OH! I used to play it all my high school career and if I had the money and more friends I'd have a more in depth spellcaster deck that didn't rely on sorcerer of dark magic.

I'm black mixed with Columbian, so ill be the first to say that some African Americans are ignorant. HOWEVER, there are many who enjoy other cultures, for instance, me because I love anime and Japanese culture. Some people think we love chicken and watermelon when some blacks actually don't. Me being mixed brings controversy to the table and can get confusing. I like to skateboard and listen to rock music like "white kids" I like rap music and mobbing like "black folk" I like ramen and sushi like "Japenese people" and I like tacos like "Mexicans". There are many stereotypes to use against people, including white people, but all cultures are mixed in to each other to the point now where the "race card" isn't played. It's a beautiful thing really :3

(the next few statements may seem racist, but it is all based on my own personal experiences)

I've worked several waiter/server jobs and here's some of the things I've noticed:

Black people tip like shit.
White people don't give a fuck and generally tip depending on how they look/their character(So sometimes you get white folk that tip well and some that tip shit)
Indian people usually don't even tip and they bitch and complain about every little thing and they try to get as much free things as possible.
Asian people are extremely picky and even if you give the best experience they've ever had in a restaurant, they will always tip exactly 15%
Hispanics are a hit or miss. Sometimes they tip, sometimes they don't. they really don't care.
Gays are the worst. Unless you blatantly kiss their ass on every thing they want(or if you look good and just act really gay[if you're a guy that is]) they will tip like shit. They bitch and complain and they are extremely cheap.

So skin color really doesn't mean a goddamn thing. Sure there are stereotypes, but that reigns true for every race. If I see some thug nigga mean mugging me on the street, I'll probably stay away from him. If I see some honky wearing a throwback with his pants hanging low, I'll probably stay away from him too. It's not a matter of skin color per say, but how that person looks and behaves in general.

but of course, you will ALWAYS have racism.

For a good example, WHITE ENTITLEMENT.
if a white person sees a black person being treated better then they are, they will get extremely upset. It's actually quite funny how often it happens. Another example is this: Imagine if you saw a black guy in a big ass escalade with 22 inch rims all tricked out. you'd probably think he's a drug dealer. WRONG. More then likely, he probably has a relative whose in the NBA/NFL. For some odd reason, when a black male makes it big, they buy the rest of their family really nice cars.

So yes, racism does exist, but it's not as blatant as it was 50 years ago. It's a completely different kind of racism.

If I was to formulate my opinions exclusively from my experience I would say blacks in general are less intelligent and more likely to be aggressive than other races. However, since theorising exists I can say that I would not shun one who is black simply because of his skin colour IF he showed intelligence and the ability to control himself on a level that I find sufficient. The math and history generally back my experience, but I know there are exceptions. Blacks CAN be on par with the rest of us.. But I have not yet met one who I see as such, and until I do my experience shall guide my hand when dealing with them. I will hold out hope for the theory.

Like with any race, there are good black people, and there are bad black people. It really depends on where you live, like if you live in the welfare culture areas, yeah, your gonna run into alot of bad people, only reason that blacks are the stereotyped ones is that there are more of em than other races in those areas, but it doesnt make the other races not guilty. To be honest, it's not everyone else being racist towards blacks, racism is everywhere, hell, I've been called a cracker ass by people of other races that I dont know.

TL;DR version: people of all races need to stop being so racist and hateful, and need to grow the fuck up

black people are black people......
calling someone a "nigger" isnt what it used to be.
but if you think back, before slavery, the "n-word" meant "idiot, stupid, ignorant, incapable, ect" my friends and i have discussed this and we all call eachother derogatory names, not because we are friends, but because we agree on the face that you are a "Wetback" or a "Micky" or a "Nigger" or a "chink" ect, based on how you act.
i have plenty of white and a mexican friend i call "Niggy" because he acts very ghetto when hes mad.
im a hard laborer and a mechanic, my friends usually call me a pale spic or a railroad layer, because im Irish.

how do i view black people? i think a non-ghetto black girl with a nice body is sexy as hell, im not picky on race when i make friends or talk to people, i jugde on how you carry yourself and how you treat people you dont know.

To me, black people is nothing more than just people. I would not look at them different than any other race with the exception of relationship. If I ever have kid who would date a black person, it would take a lot of effort for him/her to convince me to accept their relationship. Mainly because this is an influence from my culture.

I have a black friend... in jail! LOL just kidding man. No black people means no George Washington Carver, no George Washington Carver means no peanut butter; and a world with no peanut butter is not a world I want to live in!

Recently I've noticed that black kids (ages 1-4) usually develop (mental and physically) faster than kids of other races.

I understand where you are coming from.
I've got plenty of them as my friends, and I have a normal relationship with them, because skin colour does not mean anything at all, after all, we're human beings.

But, when it comes to a relationship, since I'm Asian, I also would prefer someone who has similar, if not, same cultural background with myself. I say again, I WOULD PREFER, not has to be. Since we can't predict the future and who knows what lies ahead.

I'd like to say we as a people cant let some rotten apples ruin the whole basket worth but generally they like sports mainly basketball and football now i know there are exceptions all i am saying is what i have seen with my own eyes and i say this because i live in "the south" and obsess about shoes(to the point of cleaning them in the sink with a toothbrush) and yes i do have black friends but they dont really fit the mold im describing,"waves",brushing their hair but then again some stereotypes have some tiny truths in them but still doesnt justify them and this is in my area and the sagging pants thing yeah no people need to help themselves for people to change their opinion about that person or their race

I know one guy from africa who insists he's african he doesnt like being lumped with being black or african american.

If people regardless of race want ot get rid of stereotypes they need to help people understand/see what must be done to rid of those stereotypes.

My area they somewhat glorify stuff being stolen they say ohh youve been "jugged" and rap isnt what it was back in the 90s-2003 and if its relevant im latin american i feel confortable with being "labeled in this fashion but the state that i live in on standardized test consider me white and indiginous so thats if from me

Just to add, even though I am Chinese and raised in such environment, I am a reasonable person such as if that black person has a college degree and raised from a good family, then I would not mind having a relationship

I think the sterotypes are outragiouly wrong. It is not because of how they are that african americans are disproportionatly poor. The fault lies in how society treats them. African americans have a much harder time in America than a white person does.

Almost eveybody on this planet is stupid, so it's no surprise that some stupid people are also black. There are a lot of stupid black people and a lot of stupid white people, and stupid asia- well... never mind that, you get my point.
