I always said that they were fake and people were being paranoid when they talked about it. But recently I was watching a documentary on ma TV and they talked about things that can mess with you... it was weird... anyway, what do you think? Is the govenment trying to currpt your brain?

there was a pretty big deal about it during the 50-60 but its not used that often now (mostly due to laws against it). We devoted a few classes to the stupid of subliminal messages in advertising last year; was pretty interesting stuff.

I like to think that subliminal messaging only works on those who are prone to making decisions without knowing all the facts anyhow, like people who buy things from television.

I took a class in psychology (I'm not going to claim to be an expert, since it was just one class.) and I read in one of the books that subliminal messages don't technically work.

They stated that tests were done in movie theaters by placing subliminal messages of popcorn into a film. It showed that only those who were already thinking about getting popcorn were affected. This just goes to show that if you're not interested in whatever the message is it won't affect you.

I read the chapter on it a few years ago so the test might have been slightly different than what I can remember, but that was the general gist of it.

The question I have. What would the effects be to someone who is constantly exposed to a subliminal message for prolong periods of time day in and day out. Would it have any effect?

I think sometimes people just 'look' for something to make a joke about. Kinda like innuendo's.

Well I think that subliminal messaging is only working on those who are liable to try / buy something in the first place. I doubt anyone who hates the countryside, can't stand any dirt and hates animals could be brought to buy a ranch / farm.
However for example someone who is in doubt about buying item X and than receives a "subliminal message" is liable to buy it.

On youtube actually, there was a link to a commercial or show [I forgot] that had a subliminal message in it [of McDonalds I think]. I don't know if the video is still up, but yeah honestly like the above posters said unless your thinking of eating at McDonald's / your hungry - you won't really think about it much.

:!:

Subliminal messaging is real believe it or not. Our normal mind doesn't pick it up, but our subconcious does. Most ads are directed at your subconcious. (Unless we're talking about ads that try to get a repetitive tune stuck in your head so you remember their product...)

Probably put something that broke the terms and agreement with photobucket.

That pic is the subliminal message guy telling people to smoke. I don't really see how that breaks any of their terms.
