The Flow of Power of media

0
So I'm going to do an essay that is due by next Wednesday and I was wondering whether you guys know anything about the Flow of Power. From what I can gather, Flow of Power is basically how the media is a sort of 'Gatekeeper' of knowledge. It acts as a 4th Estate function which exposes and informs the masses of wrong doing by the government or by big corporate powers. But since media barons like Murdoch have taken over a shit ton of media, it monopolizes the minds of the public similar to how early media was owned by the aristocratic power of Kings and Lords.

So what I would love to know is anything about the recent Murdoch craze. I haven't been following the story very well so I could really use someone to summarize it for me.

JK ;P

the biggest problem is the publics willingness to except what ever is handed to them at face value with out looking deeper on their own. most people are stupid and lazy, so they accept and cling to what ever side they hear first.

the true ideal of the news media is to report the facts in an unbiased manner. much of what murdochs "news" orginizations publish are thinly veiled opinions. if anyone should question their intentions, they can just scream "censorship" and "first amendment", and everyone backs off.

Furthering Shaggs statement, the ignorance and lazyness of humans to take what the "see" and "hear" on television as the absolute truth is only part of the problem. It's how people act on information that usually contains only a grain of truth that we see the true dangers of mass media.

For instance, and this is very recent crap on the television here in the U.S. The Casey Anthony Trial, in which her mother was found not guilty of murder in the 1st. Nearly everywhere I went people for completely convinced of her guilt, when the more logical conclusion of the evidence was a cover up on part of negligance by the entire family. Regardless, with stations like HLN and local news stations playing up completely made up "evidence" and stories, and blowing things widly out of proportion, and the ever virulent nature of the gossip loving people of our world, we can see that this problematic theme wont end anytime soon.

On the topic of actual severe problems however, is such things as vigilante's taking "justice" into their own hands, For example.

Wow, you wrote this almost 10 years ago. Stuff regarding this subject has caused things to go completely off the rails imo. You get the news nowadays mostly for affirmation, not information.
