wars are just pure idiocracy after WW2,the last meaningful war.
look at billions and billions those military superpower spend on recent wars.

and what do they get from those expensive wars?
casualties.
hatred.
no positive gain at all.
just negative things they gain.

and those money could be used for good causes like charity or to increase gdp or to feed the starved peoples.

basically wars are just a tools the cowards, the stupids and the paranoids use to justify their "cause".

and trapping good, honest peoples in it.

In every peace are sown the seeds of war and vice verse.

War an peace come about like the seasons. Trying to stop the cycle is like trying to stop summer from turning to fall or fall into winter.

Countries are competing for limited resources and competition leads to conflicts. Conflicts can not be avoided unless you wish to leave as a servant to the ambitious. War is simply more than population control its a law of nature like gravity. There will be conflicts and they will escalate not matter what they are about, resources, land, ideals, etc.

That is because humans aren't good at peace but we are awesome at war. I think it was just lousy leadership that lead to America's current condition, however this is not the thread for this discussion.

Yes, that's it exactly. Peace and war are cycles. You want ever lasting peace? Destroy all individual thought and replace it with a single consciousness. There can be no disagreements or conflicts when there is but one single entity doing all the thinking.

The loss of independent thought would be the herald of our extinction, even though independent thought in and of itself is a possible cause, but without it we will quickly find a point where we cannot develop any further and when that happens something will come along that a single consciousness can't fix, and it will wipe is out completely. With independent thought we have a , being generous, 50% chance of survival, without it we have a 0% chance of survival.

From an evolutionary viewpoint it can be seen as just a higher form of genetic competition.
From a humanitarian viewpoint it's the greatest idiocy of humankind.

Not the first time those two are at odds....

I can't really decide on a viewpoint, I just consider it a truth of human existence and comment on it cynically.

However, I did my compulsory military service and would willingly serve my country (or our allies for that matter) in the unprobable event that we got involved in an actual defensive war.

Compulsory military service? I thought only Israel was the one that did such a thing. What other countries mandate military service?

Doesn't Korea do forced military service?

A lot of countries mandate compulsory military service. Notable examples include Austria, Brazil, China, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Germany, Mexico, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine.

After my basic training I was used in the small arms maintenance in our base.

Many people here want an only volunteer force but I consider the experience of basic military service character-forming, I'm actually for making basic military service (or alternative civil service) compulsory for women, too.

I think mandatory service is a good idea. The only idea to know what the servicemen/women are going through is to have served yourself. Personally, I would hate military service (I'd get pissed for having the drill sergeant yell at me).

When a country is at war (I'll use the U.S. for example) people who disagree with it usually say horrible things like the fighting personnel are killing women in children in the night. Mandating military service (even if just for two years) would make these people ashamed of what they have said. They put their lives on the line for us (the people) and yet some of the very people they protect call them murderers, rapist, etc.
