Why can't people agree to disagree?

I'm not using this in any specific context, but I will give an example.
I was speaking with a friend of mine over a video game the other day, we were discussing politics and for the most part agreeing. Here's the catch, I announced that I was a christian. Suddenly she doesn't care if I live or die, I believe she's going to hell *hadn't crossed my mind but ironically the next day she said i'm going to hell* that i'm a murderer, a liar, a theif - all because I believe in a deity.
The argument "morality doesn't come from any deity existing or not" I suppose she just threw out the window huh? I spent the entire evening trying to continue being her friend, but she just hated me too much.
Apparently she was crying, the next day she blamed me for her guilt hanging her wanting to suicide over my head. Can't take back what you say, or blame anyone else.
I asked many times, i'm christian you're atheist, can we agree to disagree on certain issues, and not discuss the topic of religion if you can not debate politely? *insulting nonstop* you believe in god we can never be friends! i hate you! you want to kill me!
In the area of politics, coke verse pepsi, dip s* vs moron, conservative vs liberal
Its ironic how both sides call out the debt issue, eg "i hate conservatives for the debt they caused" ironic because obama has done nearly triple the damage bush has debt-wise.
On top of bank bailouts, you have him promising to close guantanimo while increasing funding, and claiming he'd end both wars while starting a third, only ending the iraq war when the country was annexed, the troops are comin home! Nope! You're goin over there to afghanistan..
Obama pushes the bush agenda, both of those politicians are funded by the same companies - hell anyone with over 1million$ should not be able to fund any campaign whatsoever, the people should decide and choose who gets more media coverage.
The president shall not be the shiniest of two turds! In my world anyway......

Well let's lay the issue to rest *this is the point where one party gets aggressive to keep the argument *not debate* going.
This attitude sickens me.

People can. It just sounds like your friend is crazy. Or if people can't, they just feel really strongly about their opinion and don't want to make concessions. Pretty simple stuff.

You sort of made a rant more then a serious educated discussion post, nothing against you just that it sort of doesn't fit in the section very well with how its worded. I would suggest moving this to either random or the LLR section, but if it's cool here then whatever.
OT: everyone's different and no one has to agree with others, but your friend sounds a little illogical to put it nicely. Just don't stay friends with someone like that and find people who are more open to the whole "agree to disagree" thing, because they are out there. The one's who can't just be civil with such as co-workers or bosses or whatever. I am learning to do the whole "keep your eyes and ears open while keeping your mouth shut" since people can be quite judgmental and pious... pretty sad, but it's life.

People have their own points and views, the best thing is just to respect others' opinion. Sometimes our emotions cloud our judgment and that's why some people would argue about something they strongly feel about.

You stuff got a little weird. You went from talking about your friend who has a different viewpoint than you to talking about how the political system is corrupted. Almost it feels like you are sweeping your crazy friend's issue under the rug to talk about OBAMA! (need to say it loud like that...inside joke)
Your friend is crazy or bipolar, government is always corrupted, what is the second war? (War on Terror so no idea where second or even 3rd is coming from), and Obama isn't a good president.
