I noticed the Soul's games threads in the master list no longer exist, so I figured I'd remake them into a unified thread.

Any Soul's fans around? Here's the place to discuss anything and everything Soul's related. Who else is excited for Dark Souls 3?

I'm still fiddling around with Dark Souls so I guess it is my favorite one. I sort of got lost and just ended up farming for days in the Darkroot Garden. (Offline :D )

Last thing I remember doing was getting spanked by the Stray Demon after returning to the Undead Asylum.... *sigh*

Yeah, the Stray Demon can be a bit of a pain in the ass, haha. My first few times fighting him, I ended up dying.

This is unfair because I have two favorites, Dark Souls and Bloodborne. When I first played Demon Souls, I thought it was a flawed masterpiece, I enjoyed the hell out of it but I didn't like how I had to travel in the world through "pods". Then, Dark Souls came and allowed me to go everywhere as the world loops around itself, sections are interconnected, and if you know your way you can even make shortcuts. In Dark Souls if you see a huge construct from a far, chances are you will actually reach that place later and that there's a monster in there whose favorite food is your face. With the same gameplay, but with this added feature, I felt like Dark Souls perfected Demon Souls.

Bloodborne on the other hand, I will be honest I felt disappointed at first when I had to click another "pod" to go the first location in the city of Yharnam. I thought they did a 180 and returned to the mechanics of Demon Souls which I liked less. However, to my surprise, it wasn't like that at all and while some locations that are... chalice dungeons, it didn't bother me at all since the main area was so fun to explore. Not only that, it was a break from the slow paced gameplay that the Souls games always sported as rolling and shielding was traded away for evading and well timed parry/counters.

If I really had to pick one though, I'll go with Dark Souls because it had more weapons and armors and I do love to play Fashion Souls.

Out of all of them, I would have to say Demon's Souls. The segmented world really brought out the era of chaos that came before it. I got the feel of a truly evil presence that literally fractured the world. In terms of the atmosphere and lore, it is the most heartbreaking of the three games out so far. Bloodborne tries to bring that back somewhat, but doesn't quite reach that level.

As much as I wish the polls here could have multiple options to select, they unfortunately do not. The main purpose of this thread is to discuss lore, atmosphere, reactions, and just share what the Souls games did for you. :D

Dark Souls: Best Souls, best level design, best gameplay, best lore.

Bloodborne: Best atmosphere, best bosses. Sif is the best boss fight for lore reasons, but BB generally had better bosses.

Dark Souls 2: Absolute trash. Would never play again. The engine is shit, the gameplay feels wrong, hit detection is fucked, level design is retarded, and the feedback system is a complete pile of shit. This is what happens when Hidetaka Miyazaki is not the director of a Souls game.

Demon's Souls is just a nostlagia trip. Something of a prototype. A window into a time when there was a really good idea for an action rpg that could use some polishing and whose ideas should be expanded upon. Then From Software switched publishers and Dark Souls happened, putting the experience to good use.

Keeping it brief for now. Will probably argue about the details later.

Hrm, if I think about it like that...what Dark Souls did for me was:

Definitely help me cope with failure and made me realize it is a part of every day life. I remember before I would get extremely upset if I failed at literally anything *82% on a test I would start crying*. Now I just try my best knowing that failure can happen, but it is not the end of the world. When I would fail at a boss I would not just shut off the console, but rather adapt and change my strategy. So critical thinking aspects?

Facing my fears. I stood and stared at the fog gate before Ornstein and Smough for such a long time.

Value friendship...err...the efforts of complete strangers. But also be aware of back stabbers...

Nothing in life comes easily. You have to work for it.

Don't be greedy. *learned the hard way*

Patience. Patience. Patience. AND patience.

Opinions are hard to argue for or against. Haha. Any and all opinions on the games are welcome. :)

What's the fun in not challenging people's opinions? I've got nothing better to do around here than argue about vidya anyway. Wish this sub-section was more active. Woe is me.

But seriously, you've no reaction to what I said about Dark Souls 2? It's in your fucking avatar, come on. Not even trolling, that game was garbage. The only redeeming part of it was placing soapstone messages related to exploring Emerald Herald's ass and the blacksmith daughter's tits, then seeing the messages being upvoted, and the Fume Knight boss. I sunbro'd that fight probably over 200 times and even cosplayed as Raime, trying to replicate his weapon fighting style and attack patterns (e.g., when he two-handed his greatsword, so did I), proving again and again I'm the for reals Raime.

I'm not going to be butt hurt over you not liking the game just because I happen to like one or two sets of armor in the game. Lol. It even sounds like there are a few redeeming qualities in the game that appealed to you. I don't disagree that it was weaker than some of the other games, but it had its own appeal in a way. When I talk about DS2, I'm usually referring to Scholar of the First Sin, which is a much better version of the game than the original release.

I prefer Demon's souls over any of the Dark Souls games. Simply because it has liberties in story and game design that Dark Souls surrenders by firmly establishing itself in medieval Europe. Bloodborne was a fresh breath but inevitably suffered the same.

Almost every Demon's Souls boss had a memorable quality, The Old Monk is composed of invaders,The Ancient Hero is blind, Maiden of Astrea doesn't even fight and the list goes on. The trick to almost every Dark Souls boss is adapting to their patterns, it's not bad but it's an experience you can find in every other punishing game(Ninja Gaiden for one) not to mention the fact that it dulls the endearing qualities of the boss.

As mentioned earlier, the Dark Souls series is leashed by it's European theme. Lordran is more cohesive than DeS's lands everything from the world, the way all areas connect right down to the enemy design. However it prevents the contrast in environments and enemies Demon's Souls brought, the difference between the cult-obsessed Tower of Latria and the ancient Shrine of Storms heavily enforces the theme that the fight against Demon's is a global conflict more so than a few knights from a far away kingdom ever could.

I prefer the novelty of Demon's Souls over Dark Souls, refined or not.

Holy shit, there's a fucking box of Demon's Souls on top of that pile in the picture. It can only mean one thing: Half Life 3 coming to PS4. But seriously, I only played Demon's Souls through twice, and if it gets remastered I'll be playing that shit thrice. I never did the Old Monk boss online. Judge me, I don't give a fuck. Also, can we all agree that Maneater was the best boss, if only because once you know about the fight you will forever dread ever having to go through it. It's one of those boss fights where being reminded of it will trigger you. Fuck that boss. Every time I come across The Penetrator I think, "Dude, are you me? That's my fucking job!" Good times.

It's not on Fakku, but look up "Be Wary of Feet Ahead." It's a classic that should be fapped to at least once by all Souls fans. Nawmsayin? Nawmeen, bruh? Yea, you nawmeen. Everyone nawmeen.

I'm going to wait with Dark Souls 3 to see if they fixed all the faults the prequel had.

I'm not that hyped to be honest.
