Armored Warfare

After World of Tanks and War Thunder, another online multiplayer game focusing on tank combat, this time with more modern vehicles.

Starter tanks are junk from the 50s/60s, there are wheeled vehicles and five classes - artillery, armored fighting vehicles, light tanks, tank destroyers and main battle tanks.

You can find me on EU, my username there is Amrael87.

Anyone else playing this?

Unfortunately, I am not. How does it feel compared to World of Tanks? If it's an improvement over WoT, I will hop on with you.

It's still open beta here, but IMHO it's an improvement. A few examples:

1. Crews come with the tank and cannot be 'bought' with gold, nor can they be moved to other tanks. They learn crew skills and improve the tank's performance by gaining experience. If a tank is sold and then rebought, you'll get the same crew with the same skill level it had when sold.

2. Tank commanders have each their own unique skillsets and can be swapped at will. It's stupid easy to max out a commander now. The game provides two of them at the beginning, one can be bought (with a measly amount of credits), the other can be unlocked by playing specific tanks.

3. Tanks and armored vehicles don't have weight limits, you just play the game, earn experience (or 'reputation' as it's called here) and unlock stuff. Gun upgrades are rare, most improvements in damage and penetration come from unlocking improved ammunition. PvE is pretty much made for grinding tanks.

4. Gold ammo doesn't exist, only standard types (and they're enough).

5. Equipment (called 'retrofits') can be unlocked by playing certain tanks and the higher tier the tank, the costlier the retrofits. Each retrofit has three levels of efficiency, the higher the better.

6. It is perfectly possible to play on standard account (I've spent like 40$ since joining, and only on premium tanks), but after Tier 5 the grinds become exceptionally long (revenue is higher than WoT, but so are prices of tanks and experience required to unlock modules and stuff).

7. There's a 'base' each player can customize from the garage interface. Every day upon login you can collect 100 'raw materials', and spend them in building said base, which provides bonuses (crew/commander exp, credit income, retrofit discounts, premium time discounts, global exp). Each building can go up to level 5 at the moment.

8. Artillery is not imba 1shot RNG bullshit. It deals far less damage and is more of a support class meant to wreck modules. SPGs also come with smoke rounds to temporarily conceal the target, or illumination rounds to light up the target and reveal unspotted enemies. Counterbattery is key in this game, as after every shot the artillery that fired will be briefly visibile on the minimap (this applies only to artillery players though).

...and that's all that I can think of for now.

I'm grinding my first true Tier 6 now. A sad truth about the game is that only a few tanks per tier are actually viable in competitive gameplay (PvP), the others are just nice additions that are however redundant.

After I'm done with the Russians (currently grinding T-72A) I'm moving on the US line to rebuy M60A3 and grind XM1.

A wet dream of mine is Challenger 1, but that'll probably come in the future.
