Dark Souls II

To me Demon's souls and dark souls were both challenging and I have no doubt Dark Souls II will be as well. It's what made the franchise famous in the first place.

This is just the beginning of Erik Kain's barrage of Dark Souls coverage (because fanboy): No Easy Mode Allowed: An Interview With 'Dark Souls II' Director Yui Tanimura.

Kain wrote...
Dark Souls II will also feature more horror elements, especially in the first half of the game where players won’t encounter as many enemies. The fear and anticipation of an attack should make the first half of the game more suspenseful. Meanwhile, the second half of the game will feature more fighting and action.

This is Dark Souls 2's easy mode. Considering the torch mechanic in the gameplay footage, DS2 will be the real Tomb Raider.

I have a lot of opinions of the article, but they are probably best kept till the game is released. I will say this, ACM taught me, that words are not absolute. This is a different director who wants to do what he envisions with the Dark Soul IP.

"Though I said that their voices are important... there is no answer of how to do this except for discovering a way by myself. This is the greatest challenge for me."

"He wants to create something that either defines him differently from the predecessor", or "Wants to create a game he can feel is his own/way." is what I get from this. Considering his focus on difficulty and story, it seems like he really wants to change how the two work.

Question though, what is the previous director doing/working on now? Since he couldn't/didn't do Dark Souls 2?

The previous Director is now a "Supervisor" for Dark Souls II. Which means he can veto any stupid changes to the game mechanics or commercial decisions when they arise.

So that's good.

But he can't stop them from changing the atmosphere of the game itself, or the difficulty.

Which is not good.

I played dark souls on both console and PC... but the people I know play it on PC.

I hope that there is no games for windows live on dark souls 2

Sabers Praetor Unlimited Lewd Works
Cant wait for the 2nd one also Demon Souls is a Free Download for those who have Playstation Plus for those interested in it.

I really loved the first dark souls, and its difficulty gave you such an intense feeling of achievement. I really hope Dark Souls 2 doesnt go casual on us, because the hard difficulty is one of the most essential parts that make Dark souls such a great game.

I confess, I liked Demon's souls more than Dark Souls.

Demon's Souls controls and feels COMPLETELY different from Dark Souls, so it's okay dear.
I also have a confession, I have yet to beat Demon's Souls. =/

I hate to admit it but I am in a similar boat. My t.v. is too small/low def to play on (better tv broke, was fried in the summer). The text is so small, that it's near impossible to read anything, strains my eyes to attempt too. More than half my Xbox games are impossible to play for this reason... (Would pirate it for the pc but pc specs are crap, limited up to around 2006-7 games.)

Opps I read Dark Souls, though I haven't played Demon Souls either, which is saddening.

I confess. I was the guy who always tried to honor battle in Dark Souls.
It's infuriating when you just try to have a honor battle (no potions, no turtling, no stun-locks, etc), and somebody just does everything your not supposed to in a honor battle, and then sends you a message saying "setp it up scrub".

Hopefully Dark Souls 2 has a PVP item specifically for honor battling, where if you don't honor battle, you get sinned to hell. If you do honor battle, some sin gets taken away, regardless if you win or lose.

I hope they make the combat less forgiving.

Rolling has no place in PVP if you ask me. It's a stupid idea to begin with, rolling with a weapon in your hand pft. A simple sidestep would be better, but I know they won't change the core mechanics so drastically.

Rolling

This video about sums it up

Don't know if I'm allowed to just embed it right in or not.

Rolling has every place in Dark Souls PVP (in my mind)!
If rolling wasn't as effective has it is, then everyone would just turtle behind heavy shields, and what's a fun in that?

If rolling looks stupid in your mind, get a Dark Wood Grain Ring and ninja flip like a baws (Hopefully they also bring back ninja flipping).

Well, kicking a block deplenishes a lot of stamina.
I guess sword and board combat is just too simple as is, but all I know is that I think the Dark Souls PVP is a mess (and the servers are terrible!)

To a Tower Shield or something, no. If you have a +5 Black Iron Shield, my kicks won't do anything to your stamina, it'll just leave me open for a chain-stun.
A small shield maybe, but almost no one uses small shields.

The Dark Souls online play is terrible, I'll give you that.

There are certain community groups that assign areas as a "game mod" area.
For instance, the room just before the Centipede Demon is the "No shield, no poise" arena. And there are plenty of others.
Finding an area that has the game mode you want is also apart of Dark Souls.

It's a shame, the game is like one of the best ever on paper.

I'd like kicking to have it's own button or something. It's so annoying when you want to kick and end up attacking and vice versa.

The limitations of console gaming.

When Jim Sterling makes such a convincing argument, it only helps to strengthen my pessimistic opinions.

I've been told otherwise, but I don't like the way they (Namco/Bandai and developers) are talking about Dark Souls 2... "...treating this as a massive, massive triple A game" and "...not 'every' Skyrim player is going to be jumping for Dark Souls"... They're targeting the Skyrim audience with Dark Souls 2.

Tried to read the interview/article itself, to get some context, and the page doesn't load. I'm wondering if it's a regional issue (which would be weird), but I've never had problems with UK sites before, and the rest of OXM loads, so I'm wondering if the article was pulled. Would help if anyone else can confirm this for me. If it is just me, I'd ask for screenshots or a copy paste of the article.

edit 1: Stupidity hit's, I should have looked further down the links, the oxm link still doesn't work though.

edit 2: Jumped to correct myself too soon... Still no luck with the article. Just article with a reaction to the original with a similar title...

Still no luck with OXM's online article.
