Ever Had A Video Game Shift?

Lately I just don't like mindlessly killing people online, after being avid shooter, I've become a JRPG freak, it's all about story and character devopment for me. Online shooters just depress me. Although I Wouldn't enjoy those single player games without talking to my LIVE buddies.

me too, back then like always liked shooting and racing games. but when i got my hands on final fantasy vii:crisis core i switched to RPG's after finishing crisis core. the story of crisis core is so touching that my emotions switched during the plot of the story. then after finishing the game i wanted to cry, but i couldnt because men dont cry they bottle up their emotions and let them eat them from the inside out. so after that i played alot more RPG'S like lost odyessy , final fantasy xiii . there are alot more i still want to play like FF 10 ,x-2 , 12 , kingdom hearts. back then i thought they were gay because i aint like the idea but now i have a change of heart. i really want to play these games but i dont have a ps2( because my DUMBASS gave it to my cousin only for that bitch to send it to ecuador 2 weeks later rather then giving it back)

Even though I adore playing platformers and JRPGs, I occasionally like to play some rhythm or racing games like Beatmania IIDX or Gran Truismo 5, just so I can take a break from the grueling process of level grinding and jumping on top of Goombas... ^w^

I used to play whatever was popular then. I went with the crowd, playing what everyone else played, which wasn't a bad thing. I have got to experience all types of games from all the gaming genres, and it was fun but, I really never stuck to one genre of game until I started playing Street Fighter again.

I picked up SF again at the age of 13, and ever since then I've been a hard-core fight game fanatic. Of course I play the occasional shooter once in a while, but I really want to focus on being good at one type of gaming genre instead of being okay at everything.

Definitely. A couple actually. I grew up playing almost exclusively platform based games such as Mario, Donkey Kong and the Banjo Kazooie games. Then in about 2000 or so I started playing almost exclusively JRPGs, any games that I could get ahold of mostly, but particularly the Seiken Densetsu and Tales games.

Now for the past couple of years I've gotten big on first-person shooter games.

Who knows what lies next on the horizon. XD

it happened to me in a week :P one week I was playing nothing but shooters, and the next 2 months I played nothing but Tales... finished Symphonia (PS2), Vesperia (PS3), Rebirh, Abyss, Hearts, and Phantasia NDX in that time...

I kind of have since I used to hate all racing games (except for Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing) until I got Forza Motorsport 2 for free with the 360 and spent a couple days learning it, and while I still sometimes have problems with the single player with the difficulty set to hard and ABS and such turned on I've become a real fan of it and I really want to get Forza 3 at some point except now Forza 4 is in development if I remember correctly so I may just wait. Similarly, I never liked RTS games (and for the most part still don't) with the exception of Warlords Battlecry 2. One of the biggest reasons I enjoy it is the slight RPG elements in that you can level up your hero, the easy learning curve, and the ability to adjust the game speed and even pause the game and still be able to give orders, all of which make the game very beginner friendly.

I've never shifted because I've never been a genre specific type of gamer. I love everything from puzzle games, indies and platformers, to RTSs, FPSs and RPGs. My only requirement for a game is that I have to enjoy the experience of playing it, however that experience happens to be given.

Aai FAKKU Ass Master
I LOVE JRPGS Especially SMT and NIS GAMES.

Shooters piss me off most of the time, unless I'm playing with friends.

I shifted AWAY from FPS games... Still play everything else. Halo 2 was the last enjoyable shooter I played.

welcome to my world, been in it for years

Yeah interesting way it happened for me was my grandfather was dieing, mom is very sick, business sucks, economy sucks, high school sucks, the list goes on, so my dad suggested I get something less violent (I was playing Red Dead Redemption) and maybe something not so negative so I would be in a better mood when the inevitable came. So I picked up Tales Of Vespiera, and that flipped my gaming world upside down. Still can't find much games that I enjoy like Tales. I also dove into anime, for the same reasons at the same time. That was just an awesome idea.

I used to play a lot of jrpgs, but now I mostly play fighting games. Although the lack of JRPGs is partly to blame for the shift.

I kind of got tired of JRPGs a few years back. I still play some of the top ones, but I used to play all sorts. I guess I got tired of the unimaginative stories and lackluster gameplay featured in the majority of them, especially since during this time companies like BioWare were offering games that were way better. For example, I played Xenosaga back in the day, but today, I could not see myself playing that or thinking it is a good game. The story was convoluted and unengaging and the gameplay was strategically uninteresting. I feel like I would go back if more games had a compelling story to tell, ignored more of the cliches and conventions, and offered gameplay that was challenging in an interesting way.

I've been playing more sports game since though, NBA 2k and Madden mainly.

I can't say I've ever shifted, since I've always liked nearly all types games. The things that drive me to play a game are story, gameplay, art direction and graphics, not necessarily genre.

I pretty much only play single player games now, because I am a recluse I got sick of paying for Xbawks Live only for all my mates to get super competitive, and to get shouted at by kids from four continents. Might start again when I eventually get a decent desktop, but then I've never been that keen on keyboard controls.

Shifted over to FPS and fighting games now. My aim in FPS games is horrible unless it's on the wii and I use ken's button setup from SF2 in every fighting game I play. Rocky start but practice makes people dream of perfection.

RTS, FPS, RPG, Racing and side-fighting games tend to pique my interest the most, but I've never stuck to one specific genre or moved away from one either. The way I see is that as long as you have variety in the genres you play, you won't tire of a specific one.

well I never had a real shift I used to be just a racing gamer but I got attracted to RPGs I love them now and rarely do I touch another game. I also love fighting games that has not changed.
