Journey

Warning: This post is post contains opinions, don't table flip if you happen to find something you don't agree with, which you most certainly will within the first three sentences.

Finally, aimlessly wandering an extremely vast landscape done right. Unlike the ass-packed shooters and strategies games flooding the market in the world of today, Journey is an "art" style game, relaxed yet supposedly going to be one of the most challenging games out there once it is released. Unlike in Fallout 3, where you float around a semi-vast landscape destroying random shit for no apparent reason whatsoever, Journey will contain no enemies and have a very unique storyline behind it.

You as the protagonist, a solitary and stylized figure wandering throughout the desert with the ability to surf down enormous sand dunes and sing to command bits of cloth that will help you complete puzzles and challenges. Among other things, these bits of cloth also give you the ability to execute massive jumps, fly and form giant bridges to help you Journey through the landscape. You can also leave enormous tracks of sand in the ground which, as noted by Jenova Chen, testers have already taken advantage of to draw rather large penises on the landscape. So no, you're not going to be the first faggot on the block to accomplish that.

As you climb up your very first dune, you see a massive object in the distance, a mountain (or possibly some gigantic pyramid) towering above everything else.

- Look at how fucking far away that is. You can tell this game is going to be of epic proportions already can't you? Well you're right, it is going to be and I expect you to buy it. If you don't have a PS3, you're a faggot and shall be deemed so until you buy one.

As you continue on your Journey you will happen across statues that, unlike many other games, will not shoot fucking lasers out of their eyes at you like Shinji did in 2.22, giving you only seconds to button mash your ass out of their way. No, instead they will spring forth a ghost to tell you about lore in a language you can not understand and add a golden linear glowing line to your cloak, possibly used as a new ability, way to keep score or a status symbol. - No further information has been released on this, it's pretty much up in the air at this point.

You can also come across ruins, which will react to you as you approach them, doors will shift, hieroglyphics will appear on walls containing clues, storyline information, lore and best of all, a new set of puzzles and challenges will be introduced for you to solve.

There are also many hidden areas throughout the game that you can find, one of which was shown to us at E3, where our hero walked through a goddamn sand waterfall like the triumphant master she is. I'm going to assume it's a she, not sure if you can choose the gender, but I will most definitely be playing a female if I can.

Now we move on to one of the most intriguing parts about this game. The Multi-Player capabilities. Chen said that "At certain points, your game may overlap the world of another player, you won't be able to speak to him or view his PSN I.D., but you will be able to travel, explore and complete challenges together." This, this is just fucking awesome. You're just exploring on your own, taking a hike and seeing the sights when, all of a fucking sudden, BAM! another player doing the exact same thing. I certainly view not being able to talk to the other player as a godsend. You never know who you're playing with and you won't have to listen or read some random faggots bad grammar or spelling. You will of course be able to play with the same person again. According to Chen they will be implementing a system in order to do so easily.

The game will have a very high level of re-playability. It's designed like a good museum, if you've been through it once, you probably haven't seen all it has to offer. You can choose to run straight towards the giant mountain towering above everything else like a flaming retard, or you can choose to explore every single one of the games many ruins and puzzles and then run towards the giant mountain towering above everything else like a hardcore, experienced gamer. It has been rumored there will be nothing that tells you whether or not you are at 100% completion in order for people to master the game completely and memorize all of it's specialties and locations. - This is exactly what sets the elite above the noobs and should have never been introduced in the first place.

I absolutely love the art style in this game. Of course, I would expect nothing less from the creators of Flower, one of the best art-house games to date. You will buy this game, you will feel small and powerless and you will still have a fucking magnificent time. All hail ThatGameCompany

I leave you with this.

You are missing multiple gigantic points. I suggest you read the the entire post and do some actual research on what an art-house game is. Aslo, If you didn't read the entire post why are you even responding to the thread? You have no foundation to lay your opinion on and it is therefore completely uneducated. This goes for everyone else who happens to be thinking of posting as well, this is Video Games not Incoherent Babbling.

Sounds kinda like the Myst games. Like the art in this one, guess you're gonna have to wait and see if it's cool or just boring as hell when you play it. Guess I'll check it out a bit more before I decide whether to get it or not.

Lol, Vitale edited the post. The unedited version had so much more ire.

Fanboy rage Rbz, fanboy rage. And then I realized I wasn't supposed to table flip.

If you read it three times over why did you write tl;dr? You do realize what that means right?
Too Long; Didn't Read. - Indicating you didn't read it at all.

Edit: Calling something a wannabe means it wants to be like that game or tries to idolize it. So by using the wrong term you may have posted something you didn't mean to. In any case, it's disrespectful to call any game a Wannabe of any other game (unless it is of course almost exactly like said game).

I see your edit now.

I for one think the art style doesn't fit this kind of idea for a game. It's much too stylized. I'd rather have it more realistic.

Also, not trying to be a hater here but that's a lot of fucking sand. It better offer us some 4x4s or something, cause I'm not walking all that by foot.

I'm not expecting much from this game, but you never know what they'll come up with to make it entertaining.

edit: Where is this trailer shown at E3 that you speak of? I can't find anything besides those pics.

It would be pretty heavy on system resources if the graphics were too realistic, imagine having a physics engine try to emulate all those tiny little particles, it would kill the PS3, which is basically just graphics hardware in a box. Also this is TGC, I don't really think they can do that with their design team.

I'm assuming you will have some sort of way to travel, like I said you can surf dunes and sing to bits of cloth that will help you execute jumps or fly. Game is still in very early development, a lot of major choices haven't been made and what I saw at E3 was basically like, not even alpha. Also the protagonist reminds me of Horo for some odd reason [/sarcasm].

This looks like my kind of game... so beautiful and full of wandering. :D

I am awaiting this game with open arms. Screw a travel system; walking aimlessly through the vast desert is just fine with me. Especially with the way that multi-player system works. I would just look around until I found someone and then adventure with them.
0
Well, I'm convinced. What's the release date?

As long as it has nice music to match the scenery like Flower did, I'm all in for it.

Seems fun, I'll be following this one.

Looks interesting.

Hopefully voice acting if there is any won't be corny and crap.

This looks awesome, good find.

Here's the new trailer released, which surprisingly shows very little new stuff. I hoped to see some cool places, but barely anything was shown.

Don't close the window just yet though. There's some in studio footage on the first part of this video, on which thankfully shows some cool things (unlike the trailer). Namely, hints on player interaction, footage of various landscapes and environments, and the graphics.

On the light of these news, the game still remains heavily shrowded in mystery. Which leaves me wanting for more.
