Whoa. All this time, and nobody's made a topic on it...

La.MuLANA is a freeware, puzzle and platformer game for Windows. It's made to look and feel like an old game on Konami's old standardized home computer system, the MSX. The music is incredible and the graphics are very creative (they emulate 8-bit looks). The gameplay is heavily inspired by Konami's MSX sequel to Knightmare, Maze of Galious. You are a archaeologist named Lemeza Kosugi. You recieve a letter that states, "I finally found it. I win!". It's clearly the handwriting of your father, Shorn, that went missing when you were young. The letter left a coin etched with symbols. Did he really solve the riddle of the La.MuLANA ruins? You don't think so, so you decide to explore the ruins of La.MuLANA, and you attempt to find the truth of the ruins, in spite of your father. You go around solving puzzles and finding treasure chests. I don't want to say any more than that, because I feel I'd end up spoiling the game.

Now this game takes the saying "back to the classics" to the extreme. The game can be very unforgiving, and the birds are imported straight from Castlevania. Though it may be unforgiving, it warns you of traps to come, and you would probably have been punished for not listening to the hints. The puzzles can range a drastic difficulty, from stepping on a switch on the screen to pausing the game until your character temporarily falls asleep.

The game is long, even if you know where you're going. I beat the game a second time, and even though I knew where I was going, it took me 11 hours (game time) to finish.

Well, I wish the best of luck to all of you archaeologists!

If you want to play on full screen, and have a Windows 7, run the La.MuLANA.bat in my pre-made zip instead of the .exe. Alt+Enter toggles fullscreen.

Oh, and do read the manual that comes with the game. It's in the "manual" folder. It's very helpful when you don't plan on using a strategy guide.

Anyways, with all that said, you can download the game here:

One last thing, if you really get stuck, you can use the Getting Started page from the La.MuLANA Wiki.
