Old vn's and windows 10

So i have a physical copy of a game (Koihime Musou) and i have played it a little bit on my old computer which has W7 but something is wrong with that computer and i don't know what.

i borrowed a laptop which had W10 on it from my dad (mainly for help when searching for works/paying bills) and tried to run the game even though W10 wasn't supported and it couldn't even find the cd iirc.

now i have bought a new laptop for myself as the one i borrowed is really slow and i wanted to play more games (and easier to search for work) it doesn't have a cd drive so i need to buy an external one that i can plug in through usb before i can try and see if i get the same message as the other laptop gave me.

If it doesn't work is there someway to make it work?

I know this is a late response, but I might be able to help out.

Once the game disc is in your CD drive, open up the disc directory in the file explorer and then right click the game executable. Go to properties, and you should see a tab that allows you to select a windows compatibility layer. I don't know much about the game in question, but after looking at a list of releases, I'd hazard a guess that your looking at a 2007 or 2008 release. You'll likely be able to run the game under the Vista or 7 compatibility modes, although if the game is 32 bit you might want to use XP compatibility instead.

If this doesn't work, you could also try to create a virtual machine of an old windows release using something like VirtualBox or VMware, but that does complicate the process a fair bit.
