Undertale!

It's either the most feel good game you can play this year or the most nightmarish depending on your decisions.
I haven't enjoyed a pixel rpg like this since LISA and if you haven't played it please stay away from all spoilers and play this blind.
There is so much to this game to love and explore, I suggest it a lot.

also dat music ,mmmmmmmmmmmm

tl'dr play undertale and LISA they're both amazing.

I tried LISA and although I loved many things about it I couldn't finish it. Forced Backtracking is one of the greatest sins of video gaming.

I can't really say much for LISA since I haven't played it yet. I don't personally think backtracking is that big a crime though, unless LISA asks you to go all the way back to the very first level or something. In which case, I can see how that'd be aggravating, which is a shame to hear. I was a little interested in it.

However, having finished the Neutral and Pacifist routes of Undertale, I can agree that it was a fantastic game and made me feel crazy hard in many ways. Plus the OST is absolutely godlike. Definitely one of my contenders for game of the year.

I'm in the middle of a pacifist run in undertale.

The problem with Lisa is that it's tedious and hard and then it makes you backtrack a bit. Game is charming as hell, but some sections made me take a long break.

About the backtracking in lisa, theres a fast travel system when you acquire the truck keys. So you can go back to any zone when you use em.

i learned the hard way though haha, this game really doesnt hold your hand... terry does though

I am finally going to get it. Sadly I was spoiled and won't get the full get dunked experience. I can never do a genocide run, the feels are too strong.

Now before you click the link, please be aware that this guy is a critic, and his criticisms are more like a sharp jab to the stomach. He cares both a lot about narrative and gameplay and likes originally.

Despite that agreeing with a lot of his criticism I still found the game enjoyable after beating 2 paths and getting a bit far in the "genocide" run. I think my overall impression is that the game deserves around a 6-7/10. It was charming, not buggy/failing but still lacked originality. It's meta-commentary fell short on a lot of people and wasn't very deep either.

Didn't think it was that good to be honest.

The writing was pretty dry.
The art wasn't very good.
Wasn't very challenging.
Any philosophical undertone was just below the surface and easy to discover, I expected more from a developer who publicly claims Earthbound as an influence.

Interesting concept but poorly executed and not worth the price. You can get more enjoyment out of similarly amateur work for free.

I'll give it some credit for the combat sequences though, easy but just different enough to be refreshing.
