i find what you say ironic mostly since i think of rich or noble families when i think, which are the groups in most societies where (historically at least) incest used to(and still does) happen most frequenlty,
that said, in japan this is still incest, its just more or less acceptable (by your logic if a person from some of the more remote areas of the us wrote a book about a brother and sister getting together it might not be incest)

Nextly, I say that Pandion is more than likely correct with his 'barriers' thesis. HOWEVER, he just said they were always together, not always to gether in love. Get what I'm saying? Although I personally do think he is full of shit, (because everyone on the internet is, amirite?) if he was telling the truth then an attraction between the two could've formed later during their time spent together as children.

There are outliers that break the norm. Incest exists in the world, and even if this random guy is bullshitting us it doesn't change the fact that there's some couple out there who are cousins, have been together since childhood, and have amazing sex with each other. most places just count your "main" family like you mother, father, sister, brother and sometimes steps but this is what wiki says " Cousin relationships - Marriages and sexual relationships between cousins are viewed differently in many cultures and may or may not be seen as incest." so it differs in the country you're in.

Thing is, it's up to the culture or individual what is or isn't incest. Hell, in some states in the US first cousin marriage is legal, while in some it's not. Personally, given the fact that cousins are considered completely normal in Japan (not to mention many other parts of the world), I'd opt for the Vanilla tag over the Incest tag. Not really in my hands, though.

In a lot of spanish cultures it's also alright for cousins to be married. Just not direct cousins from the same family branch. Personally I think it's ok, all humans are proven to be genetic cousins if you go back enough in time, it's where the whole adam and eve thing came from.
