Do you care the quality of translated materials?

The words are readable, it makes sense, and is the correct translation. Because I can use MSPaint and crappily translate stuff. Its nothing near top notch, but you can read what they're saying. When words are directly over a background with no speech bubbles around, then it gets messy.

of course I care! Its kind of a turn-off while fapping when you see her lines as squiggly, unreadable lines. I'm a fetishist and one of my fetish is with words, meaning the usage of words and the way they are spoken/written can either lead to a turn on or an eye sore.

I also hate arial and typewritter fonts. They make the lines too solid.

That would be the result of an editor, not a translator. I edit so therefore I care ;p and it's really distracting to me when someone edits something poorly. So I can't enjoy the doujin as well then. The words have to look natural there otherwise I don't feel like it flows well. Regardless of how well the translation is.

Uh, yeah I care. Ziggy got it down that it doesn't really look good. I can tell you what I dislike...

I hate NewTimesRoman or an unusual font in a translation, I hate it when they flip it so you have to read left to right and everything is backwards, I hate when they Americanize names, I hate it when they bold one word of a sentence, I hate it when they put American idioms, I hate it when they voluntarily censor an image to make it kid safe, I hate it when they remove part of a character's personality (Viz's interpretation of the girl that likes H in Bleach), I hate it when they completely vulgarize a sentence...

That's a lotta hate.

You said pretty much what everyone hate. What I really hate is when they pretty much Americanize everything, changing the story, name, and all. Whats worse is that translators who do that usually comes with the said crappy fonts and editing.

Yeah, we know translating is hard and you got a lot of pressure and etc., but if you're willing to do the job, do it well. Its not like we're gonna lynch you for not finishing it on time.

I edit manga/hentai so I care greatly about the quality of such things. If you can't properly edit it then you should find someone willing to do that for you. As long as your translations are decent I'm sure you'll be able to find someone.

Like it has been mentioned already ugly editing makes a scanlation an eyesore to read.

I'm somewhat divided on the issue.

On one hand, terrible translations make me laugh; terrible English just makes me cringe.
On the other hand, as a rule of thumb the "writing" is so incredibly poor in the original, that bad translations can't really ruin much any more.
What'd really annoy me though is sloppy edits that ruin the artwork.

Like here's an example of a page that took a while to edit and stuff.

Would you read it if all the pages were like this?

That's as far you'll get using MS paint. All those narrator text looks awful in the black/white box. I understand the box in the bloody text but that font is just illegible.

I won't complain much about Scanlating, because they are doing it on their own initiative and I'm getting my stuff for free. But if they are doing it, might as well put a whole-hearted effort in it.

Very much. I hate people who overlook grammatical mistakes or only translate verbatim, to the point where it doesn't make sense in English. If you are going to translate something at least put in some real effort.
