This question I've thought of because there are some that have both versions paper backs & hard backs/hard cover and before you ask me am i talking about in color or in black'n'white I'm talking about both color & in black'n'white I'm also talking about in general and to be honest so far it is hard for me to pick but if i had to guess at the moment i would say i prefer both & plus this question is mainly asking those of you who prefers, buys, owns and collects physical copies enjoy.

Which manga version do you prefer?

Be honest and if any of you wish to discuss it feel free to only if you want to enjoy and have fun sharing :).

Depends. The hard covers are twice the price and sometimes there the same quality. The larger one maybe more collector value. Color and extras will be the deciding point. Kinda like the difference between standard and limited edition in hentai and manga.

Tell you the truth unless it better than the standard why pay more for the same. Maybe if it artist signed.

I've only ever had paperback, but I prefer being able to bend the manga slightly when I switch pages which is just how I do.
I wouldn't be able to do with a hardback.

Paperback is the only manga format I've ever owned, so I'm used to it and perfectly fine with it.

Hardcovers are usually more expensive btw.

True true i agree with you that hardcovers can be expansive at times & sometimes you do get good deals such as Right stuff and Amazon and get it cheap if you want to and sometimes you don't get good deals it depends if you know what i mean & yes some are expansive & there are some are cheap depends on manga you're looking for & of course to add to your collection :).

It depends on the type of edition of specific manga.

Small, mainstream manga, like Shonen Jump (VIZ), Kodansha, Yen, Dark Horse, Seven Seas, all publish paperback manga. Quality varies among them, some, like Shonen Jump, is only black and white-even the colored pages. Yen has a few single colored pages, and certain Kodansha titles have no colored pages but have a single colored cover page. With all these factors, the price (and quality) can range from 9.99-13.00 USD.
The editions with the best bang for your buck are omnibus editions. They tend to be 2-3 volumes for the price of one, usually 15.00-20.00 USD. My problem with these editions is quality, and it depends on the publisher: for some, paper quality and cover is so cheap, much more so than single volumes. Some have all color pages-colored, extras-such as interviews and additional stories, and a flap. Unfortunately they don't include the cover art of single volumes, so if you're a collector like me, it is very disappointing. Finally, some omnibus are of great quality but the cover is paperback, so sometimes it gets uncomfortable holding the book, and turning pages can be complicated. This is where hardcover comes.

A few publishers have hardcover manga that can range from 15.00-20.00 USD. Paper quality is good too, not the best but still better than paperpack paper. Unfortunately, a few tend to be single volume, which in my opinion is too much for a single book. Don't get me wrong, it looks nice but it will definitely put a hole in your wallet.
Where hardcover really shines is in the specialty department. Collector editions, omnibus, and bi/tri-annual release, are the best option and worth the price.

Of the hardcover editions I have are: "Bleach" Volume 1 Collector edition, "Vinland Saga", and "JoJos' Bizarre Adventure". They have great paper quality, a couple or multiple colored pages, and "Vinland Saga" and "Jojo..." are omnibus-2 volumes for the price of one. Best of all, these were a one time release or slow release so I can save money and purchase them.

I think the "JoJo" release is the best: a hardcover with new original art by Hirohiko Araki, colored pages, good paper quality, extras, and 2 volumes per book.

Bottom line: if you want multiple titles at an affordable price, buy paperback. If you want a memorable product and is special to you, with a specific signature; buy hardcover.

I prefer hardbacks though the number one reason is that
it protects the book a bit more than a paperback.
As sadly paperback it has a prone to get damage.
However, I do agree that paperbacks are bit cheaper than
hardbacks so it wouldn't make sense of buying something
more expensive if the material is completely the same.

Though personally, hardcover books are worthy when is a
special edition type of book. As it can have bonus material
such as details from the author or contain four volumes in one.
Those are my favorite as I don't like having huge collections.
