Seems to be a new feature. It's just notifications on things that are going on like new messages, posts, reputation, reply to topics and such. It seems like this function can be configured in Edit you Profile.

Not really a problem, since it's going to be like the rep log, continuous update. And every time you check the latest one will be marked by a red line.

It could do with a bit of streamlining, maybe distilling all activity from one thread into a single alert (dare I say, like Facebook), e.g. 'Jacob, Mike and 7 others have posted replies in your thread blablabla', but I like the concept.

it might be why tegumi ignores your constant reports asking her out on a date.
