A List Of Reps

@Tsurayu: you missed my point. My point wasn't about reinstating the rep log in its full extent but that many users here feel that the rep system is still abused regardless of the rules enforced upon it and they can't do much about it. I definitely don't support having a full rep log put in, but by the same token it becomes frustrating to see your rep go down continuously and you can't identify who it is.
Really, don't do anything that deserves a neg rep, and staying out of IB is one way to do it.

Sorry, I knew what you meant. I just kind of went off on my own and threw that part about the log out there again.
I can understand how frustrating it is. I was -repped, and consequently someone countered, it for the span of about two weeks on a comment I made in the abortion thread. Although I will admit I deserved it for how poorly I chose to say what I meant. Not to mention anyone can sympathize with the crap Ramsus is going through with that one thread. >.<

I'm glad that I'm of the few users that have never been continuously neg repped, nor do I plan on creating that sort of behavior.
Ultimately, it's up to Jacob and how he sees the rep being used. If he finds that it's being way too abused, he might abolish rep, but the current rules are placed to prevent obvious abuse of the rep system, which to a degree works. Only the really dedicated deadbeats would continue to find a way around the rep system.

Oh no your getting -reped for no reason we need to save him before the -rep eats his soul away!
If someone is putting in the time to -rep you everyday then you should be proud you made that person so mad that they are willing to wast their life on something so stupid.

Well I don't remember who said it, might have been Ramsus, that the only thing you can really do is just make sure you do what you can in order to deserve being +repped in turn.
Again with being extremely off-topic today, but +repping seems to bother me more than -repping. I mean -repping someone usually makes sense, regardless of whether it was trivial or not. Either someone said something rude to someone, something hostile in nature, or spamming it makes sense in one form or another. Yet it seems like too many people get +repped on what I can't figure as being anything other than popularity. What happened to getting +repped for good posts, or uploads or even having some kickass pictures in Nosebleed? *shrugs*

@Ginichimaru_09: that's another optimistic way of looking at it, lol. But then again, no one wants to see their rep get eaten away continuously though. For some of us, it doesn't matter anymore because we're so well established in the FAKKU! community that one or two or five rep is no big deal. For many others, that isn't the case as the rep given to them was earned, and for it to be taken away by some idiot is truly vexing.
@Tsurayu: at the same token, there are plenty of users with rep that I believe are totally undeserved, especially to those of the third generation and those who hang out in IB. And again, there's not much we can do about it, but I take pride in who I respect, and people with true respect in the forums have clout with the administrative staff and users alike. That's what matters.

Oh well, like you said, it doesn't take long to learn who is really respectable around here and once you know that you tend to not really keep track of anyone else's rep as a representation of their value to the community, with some exceptions of course. I swear Klown is going for 9000. :P

KloWn: this guy is the c-c-c-combo breaker of reps. He doesn't count, though 9000 seems like a real long-term goal though.
It's not hard to tell who has real respect in the forums. Browsing and interacting the forums will eventually let you know whose opinion is valid and good and whose opinion is just plain bull. It almost goes without saying that the older you are in terms of FAKKU! years, the more respect you have, and above a rep of 10 that's not due to uploads will earn you some real respect, provided you know why that person is getting the rep.
These 09'er's, which I dubb the third generation, are really pushing the envelope of nonsensical antics, but I would take that over the late 08'ers during Motemote season where a bunch of noobfags came in and made the forums a mess. I was literally redirecting threads every time I browsed the forums.

Well being a third generation myself I guess I don't really have a right to say anything, but the antics do seem to be way over the top. Although everyone does seem to keep it in Incoherent Babbling pretty well, but sometimes I do get disheartened by the fact that 80% of the days activities takes place in there. Although I have been getting better about just letting myself have fun in IB too.

I've already talked to Jacob regarding rep. I suggested a feature that allows you to turn off you rep permanently and any rep you had before will reset to 0. You then can neither give out +/- rep nor get or lose it. There will also be a warning that will appear asking again if you really want to turn your rep off (a warning similar for the prestige mode for Call of Duty). He seems to like it but I'm not sure when he'll actually implement it.

@Mr. Bushido: I dunno, rep is a big part of FAKKU!, since it was the first place I saw that had such an institution implemented. But in a sense, turning off rep is basically turning off to all other + or - reps. Only thing is that it such a choice is to be made, it should be a permanent one - it'll force you to choose carefully whether or not you want or don't want rep for the rest of your time at FAKKU!.
@Tsurayu: you're an early 09'er, so you're fine. It was stuff that happened mid to late 09 that made me shake my head. I think you missed some of the more depressing threads in IB, because while contained, is extremely messy and nasty as well. You notice that most of the older members don't hang out in the IB section, and for good reason because it's so full of shit.

@Mr. Bushido: I thought you meant to turn off the rep permanently in the sense that no +/- rep would ever affect you as long as you left that function in place, not that you couldn't go back on your decision to turn off the rep function. The way you worded made me think otherwise.

It still pisses me off though to have to get -rep'd on posts that don't deserve it and to have to ask every single time if someone can fix it, since imo rep is hard to get and I would like to at least keep most of it. I mean like just recently I got -rep'd for asking for a clean of a desktop BG... another time for saying what I meant when I said "keeping it on the DL"... Tsurayu was there and saw it I think. I don't want to get rid of the rep system entirely, but somehow come up with a way to fix the problems that it has, along with a way to stop people from abusing it.
0
@Yoro: as long as rep is primarily a user-controlled function, it is impossible to fix the system to your liking regardless of the countless of douchebags who have nothing on their hands but to de-rep someone every other day. Rep was an institution that already had problems to begin since it is based on someone's prerogative, and honestly it already has a lot of rules in place that I feel are pretty good.

I think people should be able to see a list!
I normally Refer to the rep-count to tell if a user is a genuine nice person or an A$$ to people. But after spending more time on Fakku i grew to learn that Some people with low reps only have them because they are constantly "-rep" by one comment that they made long ago that should not have been taken seriously in the first place. Also some ppl seem to just be getting negative reps for no reason even if there comments have not done anything to offend others.

@Hoshi: and as it was mentioned before, seeing a full rep log would only lead to more de-repping and a shitstorm of taunts and insults - the community here WILL NOT tolerate with the scale of immaturity on that level. But if it's an issue, perhaps someone can PM Jacob and see if he/she can warn off the offender, provided one can soundly justify the unreasonableness of the constant de-repping. I'm sure he's willing to listen, but that's only if you have an appropriate case.

You get the reputation system as it is, with all the garbage intact, if Jacob fiddles with it then it really wouldn't be a fair reputation system anymore. Some people truly deserve to be -repped and getting rid of that feature may sound nice as being only able to +rep people who deserve it and everyone else just gets nothing, but I'm not fond of that idea.

Like you are trying to do, we can only suggest options that may or may not make a difference. However, as long the rep system exists, and is able to be influenced by users of this forum, the only way to stop abuse would be to complete oust the system from FAKKU, which you have already stated to not be your intention. Thus, we cannot do anything to close-off the availibility of abuse even if Jacob decides to do something about it.
As it is right now, though unfortunate, you can do nothing but log a complaint to one of the admins or ignore the -rep altogether.
