[Locked] A question about "necrobumping"
0
This is specifically for the policymaker's of the forum (the folks who wrote the rules) ~ do you particularly find it harmful for the forum if someone wants to actually post a valid, contributing comment to a thread that they find interesting or the like that may be past the "necrobumping" period of 2-3 weeks?
I could understand necrobumping being a problem when a person is just spamming for the sake of (posting solely for the sake of getting their post counts up, without any regard for actually adding to the value of a thread), but what about when someone actually has something of substance to say?
It just seems like, with threads having a cutoff period of a few weeks, wouldn't u just run into copies upon copies of threads with similar topics and themes, and isn't that wasteful? (i mean from a resources / storage point of view).
I'm just genuinely curious about why the necrobumping timeline is so short on FAKKU compared to ones on other forums, and if perhaps exceptions could be made for those who might actually have valid contributions to the topics. If not, I completely understand -- they are your rules after all.
I also wanted to add that I do apologize for necrobumping initially in my posting run today. Thanks for reading this :)

For example, in the sport and fitness area, on the very first page, there is a thread about the recommended resting time before lifting, and while I actually wrote something of valid for the thread:
"There should be a resting period of 1 day between the days you lift weights, so that your muscles do have a chance to properly heal. Remember when you are lifting weights, you are actually tearing the muscle fibers, and if they do not heal, your muscles will have no chance to actually grow back bigger."
-- because the thread falls passed the necrobump period, I can't really post my response to it. Just little situations like that come up, so it's nice to know if there are any possibilities of exception.

Well, there's no set rules on necrobumping old topics, although I do find it odd how you made 145 constructive posts in a less than a day.
Doing some math, and taking into account a delay during the night, it comes out to an average of one post every ~4 minutes for 12 hours straight. Users on this forum don't post that often.
One area necrobumping is generally accepted is the Anime Series board, where there is (usually) one topic per show/season.
EDIT: I just calculated that I make an average of 3.85 posts/day.

It may be odd, and a little abnormal compared to the posting frequency of the average FAKKU member, but there shouldn't be a problem with me wanting to take a day and post that much, right? As long as what I have to say is valid and of quality, and actually contributes to the value of the thread.

There is nothing wrong with posting a lot. For several months after I joined, I had a post count of over thirty posts/day. It upset a few members, but most of them realized that I wasn't spamming so there was no issue whether I posted once or a hundred times in one day.
As for necrobumping, it is fine. Just as long as you have something to bring to the discussion.

If the threads been dead for more then a month then it's had it's life no point in bringing it back
Upload threads however feel free to bump ever so often since most people never go beyond the 3rd page or so

yeah, the thing is.. I need clarification from an actual policymaker, because I don't want to risk my account getting banned. Now that I'm aware of the rule, I have to adhere to it as much as possible, unless exceptions are expressly indicated by a *policy maker*.

Just keep things in moderation. You don't have to reply to every thread you see that interests you. Just reply to threads that you really need to reply.

In your opinion, what do you consider "moderation" on average (i.e. in a given section, what approx amount of topics to necrobump would be considered moderate), it'd just be good to know, so I'm not walking on eggshells here.

There isn't any need to keep things in moderation. Jacob has said it himself, he doesn't care if a person posts once a day or a hundred times a day as long as they aren't spamming.
You're fine pantsu, if you are concerned with the amount of posts you are making just send a PM to Jacob about it. Although unless he's changed his view since I asked him the same thing a couple of years ago, he'll tell you exactly what I mentioned.

I have to disagree.
If a person is posting a lot, but not spamming, yet they are still complaining then they are just complaining for no good reason. I know there were a handful of members, and even a staff member, who was upset when I first joined. I got upset about it and finally felt the need to PM Jacob, until he PMd me in return with what I've said in this topic.
I can't fathom why anyone would care if someone posts a lot unless it hurts their precious ego.

I meant moderation as in, "Slow Down". There's actually no need to post/necrobump as fast as you can, even though it's not spamming.
Posting at that kind of speed and necrobumping is like, "you're speaking too fast".

If the negative response of the community to mass-posting is something that the perpetrator is bothered by -- which they evidently are, then yes, I would consider that to be a reason to post in moderation.
ZKnoves, shut up.

To be fair, there are no standard rules of conduct when it comes to how much a person could post. It is kind of ludicrous to think there should be. How does one go about telling someone how much they can and cannot post?
Common sense should be enough of that. Besides, it is only temporary. Pantsu will eventually slow down like every other crazy new poster. Random Squad members are either gone or slowed down, I slowed down, Hime slowed down before she left...
Point is, there is no reason to be making a big deal about his post count or necrobumping when he hasn't do anything wrong, and what he has done is entirely up to interpretation. The only interpretation that matters is Jacob's, anyway.
