[Locked] A Simple Question

[size=10] (NOTE: If this is not where this kind of thread goes, please let me know where it does belong after you move it. Thanks in advance) [/h]
Before I begin, let me request the confirmation of the following:
* This great site is composed of sundry people, from sundry cultures, with sundry opinions.
* It is pretty much a given that those who used this site should be mature enough to deal with its content.
Now, if such is the case, wherefore are hecklers aplenty on these forums?
I'm concerned with the effectiveness of the rep system. When I use it, I usually am +1 repping someone in the requests subforum.
When many others use it, they are -1 repping someone who has a different view on a specific subject than themselves.
Would it not be more effective to openly tell the person "You know, I strongly disagree with your views on that subject."?
If all one does is click the "-rep" button whenever they disagree with a person, they are not only not telling the person why they disagree with them, but they are wasting a potential rep they could have given to someone else.
Just to make things clear, I am not concerned with rep at the moment. If I wished to improve it, I could always help someone in the requests subforum.
My concern is whether or not the rep system is effective or not.

Up to this point rep doesn't mean shit anymore...
Some people look at rep like their life depended on it...

Really? :o
But wouldn't people notice if someone has -9999 rep, and judge their comments accordingly?
That's the vibe that I'd gotten from the first time rep was explained to me?

Fair enough.
And the only reason I censor things in my posts is because I do not use vulgar language. Thusly, it only makes sense to censor things that sit in a little box above what I'm saying, no?

It doesn't mean jack [censored], the only thing it give you (that I can think of) is a bigger e-penis.So what does its current use boil down to than?

rep+ means that somebody liked your post.
rep- means the opposite.
>I do not use vulgar language.
Then don't say it, it's that simple. It only looks stupid when you put a big [CENSORED] sign in somebodies post.
And it feels like I'm living in some [censored] communist country every time I see it.

Alright.
Speaking of which, I actually liked your post, so remind me to +rep you in 8 and a half hours.

+ means somebody like your post
- means somebody dislike your post
That's all there is to it. Kinda like "like" system in facebook, but with more restriction. Usage? If I really had to say, it is only useful to give your e-pen a bigger boner. Otherwise, nothing else matters.
And fyi, if you want better and bigger e-pen stroking, go upload something that haven't been uploaded in User Upload > Visual Novel and Eroge Subsection. Remember, do not reupload things that already been uploaded before (with the exception of the old links were dead or something similar), and only post something you uploaded by yourself. Never take any link from anyone without the uploader's consent. Also, uploading stuffs that has been translated to English seems to give more points, so try to do so if you can.
And thus, ends Master Zeroniv's tutorial. Wish this could be of some help.

Wow... err... thanks. That was certainly quite descriptive!

There's nothing to be fixed, in my opinion. What earns someone a +/- rep is defined entirely by the person giving it, and the significance of a +/- rep is determined entirely by the person receiving it. No one needs to explain, in detail, why they gave the rep they did. If they feel the need to write something, they will. If that's what you want, you might want to check out the Serious Discussion board. At least there, I'd suppose there's more constructive conversing going on.

What is your suggestion, how do we fix your issue?Well, maybe a limit on how many times a user can rep a specific person should be put in place. In addition, maybe a small form, like "Why do you wish to raise/lower this user's reputation?" could appear after the person clicks on the respective rep signs.

"Why do you wish to raise/lower this user's reputation?"Do you want someone to manually go through every rep that's been giving everyday to see if they are legit? Frankly I don't think anyone would want to do that.

While I understand that logic, might I quote the rules:
———
Do not insult or harass other members.
-Insults, harassment, flaming, trolling, baiting or other similar abusive behavior towards other members of the Forum will not be tolerated.
No discrimination.
-You may not insult members based on their religion, race, sex, political beliefs etc. Racism will NOT be tolerated.
———
In my experience, these rules have been brutally ignored. I think the plan that I put forth would help with that.

If a user wants to explain why they derepped someone they can post in the thread in question or pm the user, we don't require a reason.

It would stop random mobs from ganging up on someone and spamming -rep for no reason.
I would be happy if people did explain why they -repped, but they usually do not do so.

Can you force them to admit why they really de-rep someone? What's more likely, someone to give an honest answer about why or that they post something stupid like "ur dumb". We don't want rep wars so keeping -rep anonymous is the only option here, your suggestion would cause more problem then it would solve.
