Should Fakku! have HTML5 support for the video portion of the site?

With the launch of the video portion of the site, it got me thinking, if the site is using Flash, couldn't it be coded to use HTML5 for video playback as well? That way, devices that can run Flash will run flash, and those that can't run it (e.g., iPhone/Pad/Pod) will fall back on HTML5.
Using VideoJS you can have contrent from your site be supported by almost every platform. For those that are using PS3 (one person I believe; j/k), there is Video For Everybody. This will run with HTML5 in mind first, then fall back to Flash if needed; all without using Java scripts.

It's a bit more complicated than just changing the page markup -- using HTML5 means transcoding every video to 3ish output formats (Ogg Thedora, WebM and H.246) to work everywhere, which is a massive PITA. It's probably something we should change eventually, but it's pretty low priority.

Personally, I prefer mediaelement.js. For support in every browser, you only need an mp4 file. However, for those not supporting H.264 or , it falls back to Silverlight. You can add WebM or Ogg Theora files as well if you want HTML5 playback in Firefox/Opera.
I could care less, though, because HTML5 video is choppier on my laptop, my primary computer of choice for hentai, than Flash video.

It's less an issue of server resources (Ako and Riko barely have their CPUs touched ;_;) and more one of workflow. I need to sit down and write some tools to manage video uploading -- right now I think Jacob encodes them on his PC then puts them on the server by hand with SFTP, which is a clusterfuck and needs to be changed. Once we've got a good workflow in place we can re-encode to a set of different targets and serve whatever format the client wants.

Just mentioning that currently the iPad has had support for flash in the form of a beta package on cydia called Frash. Works about 80% of the time more or less.

Hmmm, HTML5 is a good wouldn't have a lot of problem with people who still use old browser... Only the updated browser is capable of handling HTML5 or m I wrong.

Mhh yea about the iPad thing, not everybody wants to risk £500 just to try Cydia and frash. the options I see are either a YouTube-like app for fakku, or HTML5.

Mayby try to scan logs to see if the iphone/ipad/iapple guys are more than 1%, I would see it important if that was like 10% but I doubt in that

Really it comes down to having it usable on all platforms is what I think.
