The old server was running some really shitty HDDs, and we're still piecing the data together from it and the backups. The avatars will be back shortly.
I'll look into why it won't let you upload new ones, that shouldn't be happening.
EDIT: The avatar upload stuff should be working.

Maybe you guys should resize it first to 160x260 or less..

The avis I make are always 160x260 so I wouldn't know if that's the problem with these guys =\
