[Locked] Ban discussions relating to Religion

It seems to me that people get way too worked up by these, including myself. Many forums, such as www.ubuntuforums.org have banned religion as a subject, and others, like www.e-mpire.com, have created a restricted forum, to which you have to ask a mod for access, and can be easily banned if you behave inappropriately.

banning discussing religion just because people get worked up about it? lol...at least give some real reason for the ban. but yeah, too many threads on religion lately. (most) believers are really a tiring bunch~~~

Yeah that’s kind of fucked up to ban religion just because it has heated debates if we did this for every heated debate then SD would be so boring it’s more interesting when people are “devote” about their side. While I do like people to keep their cool, I lose mine sometimes as well. Sometimes debates get heated. But is this a real big issue I don’t really feel like there’s any "lines being drawn in the sand" over the religion debates in SD. Just some people debating about something they feel strong about. If you don’t like them then avoid them yourself.

Seph: With all due respect and my personal sympathy for you, please note that this is just a forum on the internet. The discussions here yield little to no consequences in the real world, so there's really no reason to get worked up. Simply don't visit threads about religion, if they irk you. I do the same with all the bullshit "manly" threads, and it works just fine.

Agreed with everything you said, aside from what I quoted and "fix'd". I believe in a higher being but don't:
-try to make others believe
-Complain about athiest ( I can see why people don't believe in God and understand)
-and I won't argue against those who don't believe in God, since I have no proof.

My point is, calling all believers tiresome is an insult b/c we aren't all the same. Are all atheist stuck up? Don't think so.

@elder: oh, my bad. but imo, if you just believe in higher being, and just that, without all those heaven-hell thing and all that crap, i wouldn't really call you religious...well, that's what i think because the word religion to me refers to...well, you know what. anyway i'll edit it. thanks for pointing it out to me.

On Topic: I don't support the ban, but wouldn't mind it.

As much as the common generalization and hate (from all sides) flowing through those topics irritates me, I'm also against it.
Censorship aside I doubt that it would even change things since trying to shut someone up won't influence his/her feelings making such shit pop up with or without a ban.

It's fun to talk about religion. It's one of those few subjects nowadays where I don't lose my train of thought half-way through a rant and not bother to post half a post.

I'd have to disagree. Controversial and heated topics are what make this place so fun. Get rid of that and this place (at least the forum) will be very boring and will quickly die out. I don't believe anyone has crossed the line of being rude to one another, condescending maybe, but that's part of the point.

Part of my suggestion was adding a board where you would have to ask to gain access, and could be banned if you couldn't behave, so I'm not trying to impose censorship :P

Anyway, the reason I'm really posting this is because I've seen how it(usually)goes with religious discussions in various online forums. Eventually, some idiot comes in, turns the debate sour, and sets one part of the community against the other. So far, FAKKU has fared remarkable well in these debates, I'll admit that. I just don't want this board to be split in two factions as >I've seen before.

That is all, no hidden intentions or evil plot to take over the world(of FAKKU) ;)

The community is a rather intelligent one so the likely-hood of such a schism developing is a decimal so small or perhaps large that we haven't even developed a method to record it. An example of the understanding people have is Whitelion and myself. Politically (and apparently religiously) we are polar opposites. Yet, we are rather friendly rivals almost brothers but, when we agree the argument is over in a sense.

Anyways, the point of the matter is that this is highly unlikely considering what the community has been through in the past.
