Banning Hotfile spammers
0

Jacob has already acknowledged the problem, but it's really getting ridiculous. The User Upload forums are getting spammed.
I'm not saying to ban everyone that posts a hotfile link, but it's not exactly difficult to see who is spamming and who is contributing. It seems as if every download link that gets put on the userupload-video forum gets reuploaded in a new thread by repeat offenders.
Please help clean up the board.

lazyasschillypepper has been doing a great job attempting to redirect people to the original threads, but it would still be nice if we got someone to ban the people flooding the boards.

Well, I think you're exaggerating when you say those people should be banned. But they sure could be warned not to post stuff in separate threads when it could be all in a single one.
As far as the hotfile host goes, I'm okay with it. It's not the worst host used around here. But mediafire or megaupload sure would be appreciated.

As long as there's no overboard of file uploads it's ok with me. We got the Master List in the video section.

What we need is for a moderator to consolidate all user-made topics into one topic to keep the rampant spamming in check.

Maybe Matt could implement the same rule he put in the Doujinshi upload section there, but I don't think you should ban them.

I linked these in the first post:

all of which were on the first page, in all of these, lazyasschillypepper responds with links to the other fakku threads where they were originally hosted(most of which are also on the front page)

I agree something needs to be done, but banning is a bit over the top. This place is so fun to be because Jacob isn't so willing to ban everyone and his mum like every other damn forum out there.

The main problem is that they're making separate topics for every single upload. It would be nice if they were all in a single topic. This spams the forum to holy hell and pushes other people's uploads into the abyss.

On that note, we might need new rules or moderation in the User Uploads for better facilitation.

I tend to feel a bit of a distaste towards people making ban-topics ... Organizing things may be in order but this hardly solves the general problem.

The purpose wasn't to go around the boards finding people who repost others' files in hotfile so we can ban them. I'm suggesting we make it a bannable offense(maybe with a warning system or something) so the people doing this are told to stop flooding the boards from the mods themselves.
Asking mods to ban people only helps so much, but if we could actually make a rule against the file spamming, and rehosting in new threads, then we could have a subforum that isn't half spam.

Better yet, Gibbous's suggestion a few months ago would rid us of all these problems. The suggestion of automatically recognising these "bad" file hosts, and not letting a user post the said links (followed by a warning explaining why, and advising some better hosts).

The bigger question is why they're reuploading to hotfile. lazyasschillypepper gives the original link which is generally megaupload, so if they really wanted to share, why don't they do what lazy does. Are they making money off of people downloading from hotfile or what?

So they get paid by paypal for every 1000 downloads. They spam the boards on several forums in order to reach that number asap, including ours as many of us have seen. Wouldn't be so bad if hotfail didn't suck ass as much as it does.

So basically posting links for money huh? How greedy of them.
What Kuroneko said, I think banning these types of links is a good idea.

by banning the links, it will force them to use a better quality upload site, or GTFO

Last I heard was that someone was working on a anti-hotfile link script. Not sure how far they are though.
I've been trying to keep lostmybabe's doujins in one place. I've pmed him with the link, but it looked like he's ignoring me.

It's not just Hotfile. Depositfile.com and Uploading.com work on the same premise of being paid per x number of downloads.
@Tsujoi: yea, those people tend to either not notice their PM inbox or read it and ignore it. There should really be some sort of punishable offense for that.

this.
I don't even see a problem if they're contributing, most file hosts have programs like this, even rapidshare and megaupload. I've always believed in using the translator's links so they can get free subscription and continue uploading at the rates they want. However, the newer hosts actually offer money instead of subscription, which leads to people reuploading files and creates competition for downloads, which floods the crap out of our boards.
